Anyone use the 10" stock coil on their Excalibur?

Seem like a lot of users have a different coil hardwired in. Any reason? I hate to spend the money for one week a year. Will the 10" stock get the job done?
Thanks

The stock coil gets the job done just fine. There is no need to change a thing and on the Excal and changing the coil is not something to take lightly. Leave it as is and enjoy. It will serve you well.

I couldn't agree enough with the above post. I have 3 stock Excals with no plans to change them at the moment. I have yet to come across a mod that will find you something that you could not have found with the stock setup and a bit of skill. This comes down to a do-what-you-want situation, but I make my living using stock Excals and have yet to come across a target that I could not find with a stock unit. Hope this helps. HH -Marc

I dont make a living at it but im pretty happy with what ive found. I have a lot of confidence in the 10" coil..... i wished it was a 12 just because i like it on my SE. BUT not enough to start moding right now especially if i was just coming for a short time.

So u dont think that a WOT coil would let u find deeper targets...?
I hunt almost every day and would like to mod my excal with a WOT...what are the pros and cons?

The WOT is Deeper, If you hunt everyday, then the 10 is the best all around for the job. It's a matter of finding what works in your area with the type of hunting you do..........The Pro's are..it's deeper, just a guess because it can vary..beach to beach, 4 to 6 inch's more in Disc......PP can be deeper then,............... And Coverage plus

The Con's...if it's the only size coil water detector you have

The wot is tough to swing in the water.. I have one on my gt and it's a handful under water.....

I use the 10" on my Sovereign GT and Excaliber 1000 and get as good as or better depth
than people using the SEF's and the WOT 15". The reason in my opinion is the detector is
factory tuned to your unit. If you have learned your machine the 10" coil is great. I have
a 12 x 15 SEF that is use in dry sand that goes deeper but I can't run the sensitivity as
high in the wet. I have friend that has a 10 x12 SEF on a GT and when we hunted together
(I left my scoop at home so he dug mine and his finds) the 10" was just as good and as deep.

good diggin randy

I found that the 15x12 wasn't as deep as the stock 10" coil on land in my mineralized soil, but that it did get deeper than stock on my freshwater beaches. My beaches are also mineralized so I don't know why it was deeper there but not on land. My 12x10 is deeper on land than stock and I believe the 15x12 wasn't because it was soaking in too much ground matrix. The 12x10 I believe actually soaks in less ground matrix than stock thanks to it's tighter and more well defined signal in the left/right perspective. That's why I think it's deeper than the 10" Tornado. Mineralized ground can mean that too big of a coil will get less depth as it's seeing too much ground matrix. To go along with that theory I remember Crazyman saying that he got more depth in his mineralized ground using an 8" coil than the 10". For me, on my Whites...There were places were the 6" coil gave better target IDs at depth than the 9.5" coil due to the amount of mineralization or black sand in the soil. I haven't used the 12x10 in sand enough to say if it's deeper than the 15x12 there but I suspect it is due to the above reasons.

Critter....thanks for sharing ....! I have lots of black sand here on west coast...think ill stay with 10" and get some goldmaster phones....

I have other detectors for the dry sand if I need more depth. I don't need to be using an Excal.

In the surf I don't know if I would want to be digging halfway to china. It is hard enough recovering deep targets in the water.
