Anyone use a 5" Excellerator Coil on thier Musky?

Sven

Well-known member
And how does it compare depth wise against the stock Slimline 8" coil?

i would be interested as this coil does not seem available in australia and from what i have read it makes the sov more sensitive to small nuggets that the standard coild doesnt pick up ....i might have to order one from the states

Hi Sven,

Check with Randy over on the Xterra forum, I think he has. He has a lot of time in on the Advantage and can give you some good advice.

I used the 5" EXcelerator on the Advantage on a number of hunts and found it to be very good on depth for such a small coil but seemed to do better overall with more solid hits and excellent target separation with the 8" Slimline on almost every hunt. I tried using full disc at an extremely trashy area and was amazed how well the 8" Slimline coil hit on high conductors compared to other detectors using smaller coils. I prefer the overall performance of the 8" Slimline vs the 5" Excelerator but for extreme situations the EXcelerator will provide some improved target separation. If your hunting iron infested areas where your going to dig every isolated target from foil on up the Excelerator would also be a good choice. I use the 5", 6" and 4.5"x7" EXcelerator coils on other detectors with tone ID using "0" discrimination and love their performance at trashy sites but sold the 5" Musky coil because the 8" Slimline is so impressive and was hitting 8" pennies and dimes at 3 o'clock disc and provides excellent separation due to the Advantage's quick recovery speed. Just my opinion of course. HH Bill

I have the Slimline 800 as well as the orig. 8" solid white coil for my Sterling. Since the 800 coil really only measures 7 1/4", it's close enough to the 5.75 coil on my Cibola. Both detectors work on par for the most part.

I already rear mounted the Sterling control box which helps balance out the Slimline coil as it is a few ounces heavier than the 8".
And to lighten up the unit, used upper metal rod from a Tesoro Golden Sabre and lower Tesoro plastic rod.

The only other thing I plan on doing is adding external Ground balance & threshold pots. There's just enough room to put them on the face plate.

Will modify the armrest so I can access the controls

The new 5" Excelerators sold at Kellyco are black and I have a white 5" Excelerator that I got with my second-hand Musky recently.

{On the lid of the outer cardboard box of my white coil, it does say it is for the Musketeer and on the side it says, 134-5M, 5" Excelerator coil (Musk), Serial No. 7464.}

Does anyone know, is the black colored model 5" EXcelerator II / EQ 2 Pro Search coil a new model out and mine is an older white colored model? Does the black one have better performance than my white one because it is newer or not?

Hi David,

I recently sold a 5" EXcelerator Musky coil to a guy who recently sold his Musky and it was the white coil and worked great but rely mostly on depth from the Musky. I don't even see the 5" EXcelerator for the Advantage listed on Kellyco's EXcelerator page anymore.I would say the EXcelerator whether it's black or white should provide the same performance as i never noticed anyone mention of a difference. HH Bill

OK, thanks for that good info Bill and also for your coil that may have got to me!! Yes it could have been yours, it came to me from Alabama and I am glad it "worked great" for you! I have never used it yet due to cold and ice here but I plan to.

Yeah, it is still on there Bill.

I plan to get a CoilTek 15" WOT DD for my Musky but I also looked at the round 12.5" and 14" EXcelerators for it too.
