Anyone tried using the GPD-902 for a pinpointer lately?

Hi All,

I went and got one of the GPD-902's to try and make my own pinpointer per the mods originally written up by Dan Clark.

Has anyone else tried this lately? Any luck?

I added wire extensions to the coil in order to have the coil down in the probe point and now the unit can't be detuned enough to allow it to be stable. The unit beeps all the time now and the sensitivity switch doesn't detune it enough nor does the internal resistor potentiometer detune it enough.

Has anyone figured out how to overcome this?

This week I'll get rid of the extension wires and reconnect the coil to the board just to see if it is the extension wires or whether I messed something else up.

Take care,
JT

Here's what to try. Take a paper hole punch and punch a hole in some tin foil. The kind that's in your kitchen drawer. Then glue or tape it to the very end of your coil. You may have to adjust the size to get it just right. But the hole punch size will probably do it. Now try tuning it.
