Anyone tried new 5" Excelerator coil on the 1500 or 2500GTI detector?

It's hardly new, but I have one. I'm not terribly impressed with it. It does not use the standard Garrett bolt to attach to the lower stem. They shipped mine without the bolt, a skinny little thing with a wingnut on it, so I had to wait till they shipped me a bolt. It doesn't really attach too well using that skinny bolt, kinda moves around and doesn't stay parallel to the ground. It is a DD coil, so it loves bottlecaps. Because of my first impression of it(not happy with the way it attaches)I haven't used it but once. Wished I would have gotten the Garrett 4" instead.

I have one, same thoughts about the thin bolt. I went to Lowe's and got a few extra, figured they would break.
I only have about 30 minutes on it so far, not enought to judge it properly.

Hi Frank, to be honest i am not yet a garrett user although i do have a GTP on the way, however this is in regards to my impression of the 5" EXcelerator coil as i purchased one for a minelab Advantage.I agree with John's evaluation of the coil and must also add that it is very thick and appears to be over an inch and to me it just doesn't seem to have the quality look and the large tab holes allow to much room for misalignment,i used it briefly and didn't care for it.Unless you want a small DD coil i would probably go with the small factory coil. Sorry to butt in without using it on a garrett but just had to throw in my 2 cents <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> HH Bill

I picked one up late last year, and really enjoyed both the depth and ability to cover ground the way DD coils do. I found that in some of the places I detect, the ability to manouver the coil is limited, so getting the extra depth coverage as compared to a regular coil is a bonus. I definitely have a niche for such a small DD coil.
