Anyone took their coil cover off and cleaned yet?

I cleaned mine today after about 40 hours of detecting. It was nasty with lots of dirt mostly around the perimeter. The gorge spots in the middle underneath the coil looked pretty clean.

Going beach hunting will fill it full of sand. I'm thinking I'll eventually seal it with some gasket sealer or something. I know some here don't even use their coil cover.

I take the cover off two or three times a week a lot of dust from being so dry :twodetecting::minelab::cheers:

I don't use a coil cover. Unless someone out there knows differently, I've never heard of a Minelab coil wearing through because of not using a coil cover.

Is there an advantage to not using cover, other than easy to keep clean?

I have saw a new style coil with a hole from a lot of beach hunting in the sand. Don't think it would be a big problem in the dirt.

I clean mine every time I come off the beach. The thing loads up with sand. I used marine epoxy on my Gt and Excal coils and am thinking of coating this one..

Take mine off after every dig, beach, ploughed or pasture,
Always have, with the EX11 & the Trac,
I've seen coils that have been used with no cover & the thing is full of shells, which I believe caused problems with the performance, so I've been told, don't hold me to that,
But I swing the coil low & would like to keep mine looking like new when the cover is removed, covers are cheap enough, coils aren't

Must have been a lot of beach hunting to cause a hole to develop. When you see the hole start to develop, fill it with a sealer or some epoxy.

I may have a faulty cover but I have reported that my coil fills with sand as soon a I get on the beach. This negates the light balanced machine as it becomes atleast 1 lb heavier and un balanced. But.... I have also found that since the cover isn't attached in the center by any means ( it just hags down) the sand will come right back out with a sweep throught the water. As far as no cover on the beach I would say the opposite for the grass no cover. The beach is loaded with big shells rocks bricks drift wood, my cover is all gouged on the bottom and I am so glad I have a cover on it.

Covers do collect dirt, sand etc. But I think the covers keep them looking good, which lends itself to resale value... especially going from Exp/ Etarc to CTX.
