Anyone suggest a scale for weighing gold...

Looking for one with a calibration weight and would like to keep the cost down as much as possible. Just something to give me an idea of what I have. I only hunt the beach and have some gold I want to sell. Thanks.
Jerry

Just be sure to get one with a calibration weight, as they tend to go out of wack easily because they are so sensitive.

Thanks, Bobbie. So, do you think the $50 to $100 price range would be good enough? I'm guessing it's like with most things, you get what you pay for but I don't want overkill, just good enough to have a close idea of what my weight totals are. Thanks again.

I to am looking for such a purchase...I took a 24k ring to jeweler and she pulled a dusty and rough looking scale out and weighed it for me..it was 8.2 grams...I am not sure that is accurate looking at a 14k earing in a thread up above...earings if as heavy as stated would disconform the ear lobe...my guess...hope you get a good awnser on this cause I want one also...good luck.

I bought a digital jewelry scale last Fall for $15. Get your phone book out, and call some of the "adult" boutiques. You want the ones that cater to the body jewelry types, incense, etc. Basically, these are the "stoners", looking for accessories for their habit. You can usually find jewelry scales here, as they use accurate scales to weigh out the various "recreational" substances they indulge in. I've even seen one that was accurate to .01 grams.

Thanks, Allen. Never would have thought of this but what the heck. I'll try it. Did they just happen to sell you an extra one they had or did they order one for you?

mattockman, I have seen a number of different scales on different sites and they range in price from about $40 or so on up to over a hundred. I'm kind of in the dark about this even though I have been researching it. I don't think I need something a professional jeweller needs but do want something that will give me a fairly accurate weight. Good luck, I hope we both find what we are looking for. If you hear of anything, let me know and I'll do the same.

I bought mine from this company.......they ship the next day. They also sell on Ebay and the price is slightly lower but if there is a problem they will not honor the problem on Ebay. I did have a problem with the scale that I bought directly and they exchanged it immediately. I bought the one for $59 and I wish I had gotten one just a little bit bigger.

I got it back in Feb. at a nearby pawn shop. A friend in the Jewelry business checked it against his high dollar scale and it was dead on to the tenth of a gram. I got it in the box new for 25.00. It is battery operated, with auto shut off to save power. It works for what I do. Just weight my loot.

and the photos and links. At least now I know what to look for so I will check my area first and then order one if I can't find anything here. Thanks again to all of you and have a great weekend with some great finds.

I finally ordered one today. It's new for 2007 made by My Weigh and it's the ibalance 201. It weighs in a number of modes including carat so I can weigh gem stones as well. The accuracy is within .01 grams, maybe a little overkill but what the heck. It's a little more pricey than what I really wanted to spend but since I sold a watch I found a couple of years ago, it is paid for. I tend to let my hobby pay for itself, as most of you probably do if you've been at it for a long time. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for your help.
Jerry

p.s., Thanks, CC2, for your reply and the link.
