Anyone see this screen problem before??

I hunted earlier today and my screen was perfectly fine. I go to download a new program and this grey streaking appears on the left side of the screen. Turned the machine on and off a few times and took the battery off and it's still there. The machines out of warranty, so, I live with it or pay to have it(whatever it is) fixed. I'll send an email to Minelab tonight and then call tomorrow and get a diagnoses. First time I've ever had an issue with a Minelab, this really bites!!

Yeah, it's a bad screen. No fix. You have to send it in to be repaired. If it's not under warranty and you can live without that left side, your detecting won't be effected.

Dan do you know if that ctx was ever in the water ,I just wonder if people that have had it from the start and never had it in the water are having this problem . I have had mine from the start June 2012 and have not had a problem with the detector itself except bad coil and battery charger keeping my fingers crossed . sube

It's never been in the water from what I was told by the guy I bought it from. I sent an e-mail to Minelab and will call Marty tomorrow to double check on the warranty and follow up.

I knew as soon as I saw it that it would need to be sent in. I'll see what the fix is going to run, if its outrageous, I'll live with it.

Do you have a 12-01 or 12-02 ring you can scan? If so what happens? Just curious.

Dan,
Yes, I had that happen to one of mine...

If my memory is correct (don't bet any money on it), it turned out not to be the screen itself, but the control board that drives the screen.

Or maybe it was both? I might be able to find the paperwork they sent it back with...was warranty, so no idea what cost was.

It was on my used unit, and the screws had that "I've been in the water" look to them, if you know what I mean.

I've seen it on more than one unit that was exposed to the evils of di-hygrogen monoxide....
(H2O) ;)

good luck, and keep us up to date,
mike

My first gut feeling was the board itself. I'll call tomorrow and see if by some miracle it's still under warranty. If not, I'll live with it.

I do know that when I got it back (fixed), the z**g screen protector was still on it.

At least yours is on the left side...mine was right over the 40 line. :)

Just got off the phone with Marty @ Minelab, looks like $187.50 for a fix. I'm waiting for a call back to see if it's still under warranty. That's not as bad as I expected, I'll be without my machine for awhile though.

Dan,
That's not bad at all. I was somehow expecting three times that. :)

I did find my paperwork for the warranty repair, and as amberjack said, it was just for replacing the control board, not the display.

You didnt store in a garage over winter did you? Bad for lcd screens, they can freeze. Not sure if thats it. Happened to me, send back for repair.
