Anyone relic hunt with their AT-PRO?

If so how deep they go on bullets and buttons? Also what do they id as far as vdi numbers?

Hi 88junior, I do most of my detecting with my AT Pro for relics. I am finding a lot of bullets and the occasional buttons easily between 6-9 inches. About 2 weekend ago I found a beautiful "US" belt buckle that was about 12 inches deep. The AT Pro is an excellent relic hunter. The bullets and buttons usually come in at between 60-80 but I have occasionally pulled bullets coming up in the 50s. My general rule of thumb is to dig everything that comes in above 50 and deeper than 4 inches. Usually something with good vdi that is close to the surface turns out to be trash.

Good luck, happy hunting, you will enjoy the AT Pro. Listen for the "sweet" tone it give off when it senses good metals, more often than not the target will turn out to be a good relic or coin. Mark

Don't get too wrapped up with ID for relics. A lot of items have been in the ground for a very long time, so they may not read as they should because of their depth and/or oxidation build up. If it's deep, it needs to come out of the ground to be identified. How deep will depend on your soil, machine setup, coil size and type. From reading some of the reports, the AT Pro is getting as good depth as machines costing 2 x as much, especially in higher mineralized soils.

I live in North Georgia and have red clay dirt which is highly mineralized!

The Garrett AT Pro is an excellent relic hunter at 15 khz. Makes it super hot on lower conductors and bullets!

Mine will get a 58 cal. bullet at 10'' or 11'' and depending on the size and type of button about 8'' to 10''. I use my AT PRO strictly for relic hunting and I got to say it does a good job. I just wish Garrett would make a larger coil for it. Hope this helps you out.

John-Edmonton, you are absolutely right, so many factors in the ground impact on the ID a target will give off. The best thing is to dig everything or get very familiar with the detector, and from that make your own determination what to dig. Mark
