Anyone out there relic hunting with the 3030?

I see that most are silver hunting coins. Both beach and parks. I was wondering how you have the 3030 set up for relic hunting. Thanks Jim

I do use my 3030 to hunt CW relics. I do not have a secret program. I use the factory relic mode all except for the smooth tone. I prefer combined audio and ferrous coin. A 3 ring mini-ball 58 caliber usually comes in around 12-35, a Sharps carbine around 12-34, a Confederate I button as well as most of the larger uniform buttons come in around 12-33. These are a few examples. I set 12-30 to 12-38 at 1200 in the appropriate combined box. Any high tone in this area I dig it. I have had iron canister balls come in anywhere from 12-20 to 12-43. Always dig 12-02 and 12-04 as it may be a gold $1. The factory mode has very little discrimination( nails and small wire ). Just a push of the detect button will give an open screen. Auto +3 works most of the time but my TN. red dirt with a lot of iron ore requires a manual ground balance that works VERY well. These settings work for me in my dirt and am usually competeing with my two sons, one with a V3I and the other with a F-75 LTD and have not been embarrassed yet. The big advantage I have with the 3030 or E-Trac is I can hunt under the high voltage TVA powerlines and they can't. There is stuff under those powerlines. This should get you in the ballpark and you can adjust your machine according to where you are hunting. Remember if you do a manual ground balance you will need to disengage to go back to auto ground balance. This may help I hope so. It does work for me. Good luck and HH :minelab:

Hershey1,

Have you seen any difference in the signals from roundballs and conical minie balls? We are digging in fairly mineralized soil and both my bud and myself have seen that roundballs do not ring out as clearly as the conicals.

Love the CTX as a relic machine!
