Anyone near Goldsboro, NC with a BHID 300?

Just wondering if anyone close by or along the NC coast that has this detector could share some experience with me. Particularly on GB'ing the detector on the wet beach. When I did it at Onslow Beach and Emerald Isle, it was a bit frustrating, in that when I raised the coil about a foot off the ground and lowered it, there did not seem to be much change in the threshold. It would quiet as I bought the coil to the sand, I would adjust and it would do the same. It was difficult if not impossible to get the tone to stay steady as I would lower the coil to the sand. I did it both fast and slow. When I did it real slow, it seemed to work better. What is your technique/experience with GB'ing the BHID 300? Thanks, Bryan

I have one and had the same issue. After some research, I found that this is very common and not an issue on most beaches in the southeast because of the low mineralization on our beaches. Just set the GB in the middle of the dial and hunt away. Also, depth in discriminate isn't so great. I hunt in all metal and use the led lights. If I see a red I leave it. In all metal it is as deep as my sovereign on the beach. If you don't hunt in the water, pick up a used Sov elite or GT. They are great on the beach and won't be fooled by bottle caps and bobby pins. I was really frustrated by all the iron on the beaches in sc. The BHID is a very good beach detector and very sensitive to small targets which is good and bad. The Sov will just null on iron so you can cover more beach.

Good luck,

Lee

Thanks for the response. I had a Sov GT and sold it. I found that it was fantastic on the beach, but wanted to get in the water and not have to worry about the control box getting wet. Thanks for the info on the GB. I seemed to do just fine after I GB'ed, but was wanting to see what others had experienced. You answered my question, thanks alot. I went back and forth from AM to Disc, Disc was much more stable, but AM would make a bit much noise, particularly in the water, but if I got a signal, it was easy to detemine a target. I guess you just have to get accustomed to the noise as you swing in the water and wet sand. I just need more experience I think. Thanks again.
