Anyone know why Garrett has not shipped the new ATX Deepseeker package out yet?

This is something I have had on preorder for some time now and I was just wondering what sort of changes they may be doing on the latest units. I called Garrett about it and they said "it is worth the wait and I would be very happy with the unit' and that they are estimating the end of January for ship dates. Are there updates they are doing or some sort of mod that would cause a product to be delayed almost 2 months? Just wondering

Problems getting enough of the 20" mono coils built and coil cover delays as well. End of March hopefully, cross your fingers and toes.

My agreement with Garrett through one of their dealers was the first week of December 2013. I paid my money so i have done everything required for my part in this agreement. So for me March would be 5 months after i paid my money. How can a company take your money and then not deliver a product or even give and explanation as to why they have not delivered. I will never buy another Garrett product again. Even the Chinese give better service than Garrett.

I would certainly be frustrated if I was in your position. Here in the U.S. You can normally pre-order something using your credit card but the cost is not actually charged until the item ships. In any case, waiting from early December until March (3 to 4 months) is tough.

Were you required to Pre-pay the full purchase price or have you paid a deposit in order to secure your place on a waiting list? Do you have any kind of written agreement regarding this payment? I am curious whether this arrangement something Garrett's distributor in Australia demanded or is it something the dealer required?

I'm waiting for a coil cover, so I'm curious about the delay as well.

Well I pre-paid in early December and am still waiting also here in the states. I just spoke to Garrett and they are now hoping for a March delivery. Every month I call its always the next month.
What a bunch of crap!

Gordon,

When you say "pre-paid" - did you pay the full price up front or have your card billed for the full price, or was it a deposit you paid? Just curious.

Perhaps, one of the sponsors could enlighten us on how they handle "pre-orders" as far as payment.

Thanks

Yes I pre-paid the full price at the time which is somewhat unusual but I thought the wait would only be a week or two.
Luckily I used the credit card because it looks like I will be pursuing a refund and selecting another brand of detector.

Without commenting on whether you would rather wait for eventual delivery or choose another machine, I think any dealer who takes full payment prior to shipment or delivery of an out-of-stock product is doing you a disservice.

No reputable on-line dealer of tech goods does such a thing if they want to keep customers. If you pre-order a hot new camera for example from Amazon or any of the photo/electronics dealers online, your card is not charged until shipment.

I just called Kellyco - who IS a Findmall sponsor and they confirmed that if I placed an order today for the ATX Deepseeker Package, I would secure my place in line for delivery. My credit card would have s PENDING charge put on it for the detector price, but I would not actually be billed ANYTHING until it shipped.

If your dealer accepted actual pre-payment, then they are not offering you the terms normal in the trade.

Of course, this is my opinion only and what you choose to do with your own resources is none of my business.

Hope it all works out to your satisfaction.

Just to be clear here. I'm not criticizing any of us enthusiasts who want to get the latest and greatest. I also have great respect for the bricks and mortar detector dealers out there who work hard to make a modest return. Likewise reputable online dealers are mainly doing a great job.

Paying 100% up front without solid information as to ship date, delivery method, etc is risky. Credit Card companies as well as PayPal are good about protecting the buyer (unless you pay via PayPal gift - which is pretty much like sending cash - you can't complain to PayPal since you told them you weren't buying anything!).

Even though we usually pay in advance for online orders, reputable dealers NEVER offer items for sale that are out of stock without making it clear that payment will not be due until shipment.

Even then, legally, the seller is obliged to deliver the goods to you. All risk of loss or damage prior to delivery is HIS, not yours.

I was a buyer for 35 years - and for my own use have bought way more crap than I should have.

On the other hand, advice is worth what you pay for it and this advice is free ---- and therefore worthless!!

I wonder why here in the US they are not available?????? This is where they are made!

If the online dealer takes a pre-order PayPal payment - it is a full payment charged to your card or PP account...however PayPal offers 60 days to refund and after that all one has to do is send money back to the person. When an order is placed with Garrett and your PayPal account is what the dealer pays Garrett with...right when Garrett gets the order they put a temporary hold for the amount of the order to see if money is available. If it is not - order does not go through. That is why Pre-Paid should be paid on full with refunds available upon request. When Garrett ships the item....they pull the money from the PayPal account and off it goes.

I would not place an order with Garrett if I did not have full payment for a pre-order. If one wants to cancel order and get a refund - easy peasy with no delay.
