Anyone know what this is?

Found this in area of other CW relics but I am at a loss. It is hollow and is about 1 1/2 inches long. Thanks for any help.

used to hold the wooden ramrod. If you measure the opening, it will give you very close to the caliber. Nice find.

Military muskets and rifles use iron ram rods, and have a smaller diameter aside from design. I have dug this same relic several times myself, but around old homesites. Could it have been used on long rifles? It does somewhat resemble the thimble from mountain rifles. The diameter of the open ends would suggest wooden ram rod use, but I'd like to see photographs to ascertain attachment. Maybe Dave Poche can shed light on this. GH, David

Since this was identified I learned it's also called a ramrod channel. The only rifle I found that had one similar was a Kentucky Long rifle.
But I'm sure there are others as long as the rod mounts under the stock or barrel.
