Anyone know what this is?

I found this yesterday and have no idea what it is. It is really crusty with grains of sand or cement on it and it is hard to remove any more of the crusty without damaging it.

Looks like a coin pendant/necklace....any US coins fit in it snugly? Maybe a nickle?

it is so crusty that you could not get any coin in it. I am primarily just seeing if anyone else has ever seen one and if so, that would probably tell me where it came from. Just a "different" trinket that I found and I am curious.

going by the gear teeth....a clock part??

Can you clean it up a bit better?
It looks like it has some design to the front, but it is hard to make out.
Try soaking it and light tooth brushing.
Some have used vinegar, hot peroxide or olive oil soaks.
Short soaks and light brushing in soap and water.
All work in different ways and are used at your own risk.
Olive oil is the mildest and takes the longest and peroxide the most aggressive of these methods and works very fast..
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Definitely not a clock part. Yes, it has some design on it, but the crusty part is almost like cement, I have managed to get some of it to kind of chip off with a plastic tool, but the part down in the grooves of the design are very stubborn.
I soaked it in olive oil and it came apart, but the crusty is still on the design part.
