This is solid brass, and I have no idea what it is. Does someone have an idea what it might be? Thanks
 
yep tent rope tensioner. most likely a military relic. we find a lot or those at a wwi site near my house.
 
Thanks for the information, the area I was trying to find had a small tent city in the 1920's up until about 1935. Thanks, that is exciting, I think I am getting in the right spot.
