...popular at carnivals, circuses and tourist places. They came out of a machine that let you print a message on the badge by selecting letters and punching them into the soft aluminum metal. Four-leaf clover and horse-shoe shapes are also common.

Often you will find these with someone's name and address stamped into them to be used on a key chain. Sometimes you will find them with not so nice words or saying printed. On the ones I've seen, there always seems to be a spelling or spacing mistake where the person goofed when they were imprinting their message.

Thanks Steve.
I sent the same message again by mistake. Aggghhhh.

This one must be old. Look at the telephone in center. We don't see them anymore. My MD mate says she had one like this when she was 9 years old. She is 52 now.

Thanks

Yes, from the 40's to 50's. They are made of aluminum so probably no earlier. I had a link to these with more info at one time, but can't seem to put my finger on it at the moment. I rummaged around through some boxes and found a couple I've dug.

The one on the right says GREG MORROW and BBBBILL, looks like there is an attempt at an address as well. It appears folks had a hard time getting their messages printed correctly on the machines. Or at the carnival, possibly they were a little impaired ;) as in the one on the left that
reads: JONJOHN WHEATLEY F### LIKE H#LL

Neat find, Rob, thanks for posting!
