Anyone know what changes are being made to the F-75's battery compartment with the upgrade??

Nothing immediately obvious. I notice the back plate (not the removable lid but the whole last 1/4" of the box) seems to be replaced on mine that came back yesterday. It looks shiney new.. Possibly just buffed up. The contacts may or may not be larger on the "+" end of the batteries. I'm guessing there is also an internal seal added. Realling nothing that jumps out at you. I took some before images and I'll post them and some "after" images here tonight and see if anything can be spotted.

New hand grip is fractionally thicker. I had no complaints on the old one but this does fill the hand a little better; at least my hand.

They either replaced or really cleaned my coil, also. Not a spec of dirt or a scuff on it.

It appears they changed the springs. My old ones had a rust spot on them which its appearance was always puzzling to me as I never hunted in the rain with it or ever near any water? I don't see any change in the battery compartment back cover or any new type of gasket on the cover itself. I don't understand why Fisher doesn't just post their own before and after photos of their upgrade to help people decide if they think it is worth while doing.:stars:

According to both your post and Mr Bill's : "It was more than just gaskets. It was a re-tooling of the cases. They changed out the plastic housings with new, and then gasketed them. It will have the best sealing of any detector on the market, Very environmentally sealed :) :) :)" Well, I think they forgot to do mine as everything on the battery compartment except the springs is exactly the same, scratches included???

The only thing that was "enviromentaly sealed" is the faceplate. To my knowledge, Minelab never said anything about the battery compartment being sealed. I talked to Felix about the battery compartment, and he said they were installing different padding to make the batteries contact better. That's it, no sealing. I don't know where you heard that???? Apparently, the supplied cover is enough to keep rain out.

The only change to the battery housing is an "o" ring under the on/off switch and some thicker pads for the batteries to make contact better However, the amount of other stuff that they do the control housing is quite a large undertaking that $50 seems to be a very modest amount to charge for. After hearing the explanation of what exactly they do for the upgrade, I was very impressed and again am puzzled as to why they just don't post that information as it would likely impress most enough to have it done.

Ooooo! I hate dial-up. My PC timed out twice trying to upload these!

Here you can see the grip is obviously different. The control box has an added gasket. The battery box my have some alterations but they are none too obvious. Otherwise???? I'm also curious that the coil returned is spotless. Not a fleck of dirt or a scuff on it (I did use & send it with a coil cover & it came back with one attached). It was either well cleaned for testing or replaced.

Maybe not those exact words, but I assumed that most would understand it.

Anything that fell under warranted items would be taken care of under the warranty, if the item appeared defective when the unit was shipped in to them.

The environmental sealing was not a warranty issue. They decided to go this route for a few reasons I can think of. First was to get rid of the covers they supplied with the unit when new. Second was to improve on the weather sealing of the product. Their constantly improving on the F-75 design. Their willing to up grade earlier units to the new standard, but users will have to pay a modest charge of $50. have this done. What they do is subject to change. They may add more, or do less depending if they feel it's warrented.

Similar to how it was when you first got your F75, brand new? I also think I got a new coil back with mine. I sent it out with twist ties and the cable in about 5" coil. The coil that I got back looked clean as a whistle and the cable was folded back and fourth in tight configuration, and held in place with a rubber band. I do wish they wouldnt wind the cable that way, it stresses it more with the sharp bends more so than when you loop it in bigger circles.

TBut with that said, I was very pleased with the changes and the service.

Don't know what that means exactly, don't care, didn't know it, but I am very glad it works. Wish I had sent my smaller coil in too, so I could be sure that was Ok at the same time.

The only thing I thought was confusing was "modifications to the battery compartment". That was a little vague, and when I talked to Felix, he didn't go into to much detail. So when I got it back and compared it to what others were posting, I got a little confused.
