A printable page online that gives vdi ranges for different coins and jewelry,...im still perplexed that silver necklace i found, rings in as zinc penny..and common rule is to dig everything but seems most zinc pennies are half rotted away so ive have passed on lots of those "zinc penny" readings...thanks ..Curt

My theory is that since the necklace is so open and large piece of silver it will not have the VDI expected. Take one of the links off and you'll get a good hit. Even when Larry found the infamous 14KT 108 diamond beautiful bracelet (that fits on my wrist perfectly:happy:), it didn't show on the VDI positive numbers. I'm sure Larry can explain it in tech terms. Have I confused you? Sorry if so. HH, Nancy

Are you sure it is silver and not silver plated? Just because it might be stamped .925 does not mean it is pure silver. It is fairly common to get silver plated copper jewelry from Mexico stamped 925. Most segmented (real) jewelry, necklaces, bracelets in gold and silver will VDI in the lower VDI range.

This chart might help http://www.findmall.com/read.php?25,1125009,1125340#msg-1125340

Just noticed this chart is coins only, but use SEARCH for VDI chart for more of them.

Necklace is marked 925 from Italy with company name Livior, and is fairly heavy so dont believe its copper..way to heavy for copper...anyway did air test and maybe one out of five passes will come in with low vdi number..rest bounces around 55 to the dreaded zinc penny, the further away from coil more likely to ring low.Tried taking off a link..no luck..kinda solid looking but not likely..thanks for input...and thanks Larry for that link...Curt
