anyone know of some good books on 1800s period tools, i find alot of tools on civil war sites sometimes, but its hard to put an age on them.

have reprinted books showing all the tools available back to late 1800's to early 1900's telling what they were used for, how much they cost and even some hand drawn pictures too. I used to have a copy but can't seem to find it now. Try a search on Amazon and you'll probably find tons of books on the subject and they are new and used books at reasonable prices.

That dude that had the woodwright's shop show on pbs could probably be a source for tools and books from that era.
