I'm headed there with a group for mid September and want to know if anyone know if there are any laws or ordinances against metal detecting and of a permit is required to detect in the sea,?

All beaches are public in the Bahamas, and detecting is allowed, I was there last year on a Cruise Ship and went over and hunted behind the Atlantis Hotel. I have a letter from Basil Rahming, Chief Superintendent of Police, 2nd.I/C grand Bahamas& Northern Bahamas.

It reads,

Please be advised that there are no laws prohibiting the use of a metal detector on public beaches. All beaches are public below the high tide water line.

I had a security guard from Atlantis tell me I was on private property. I told him Mr. Basil Rahming chief of police says not. He told me to have a nice day.

Good luck and HH
