I would like to get some kinda tape that doesnt leave glue behind if removed, something that is gonna be tight on the rod and protect it, particuarly the part between the arm rest and control pod. I was thinking some tennis grip wrap, anyone have anything better than that, know where to get it?
Neil. What I did was take seran wrap and and wrapped the grip tight, then went over with electrical tape. I've used this over 400 hours now and am still on the same setup. I've heard tennis wrap works well and I figured I'd try that if what I used did not pan out. I'm a long ways from somewhere that sells tennis wrap and so far have not needed it.
I got this tip from a buddy in MA. Vet wrap is kind of like an Ace bandage that Vets use on animals. Stretchy and sticks to itself. Comes in a variety of colors. You can get it at most Farm Supply stores or you can order it online. I bought mine locally for about $3 a roll. And a roll will do several detectors. JMHO HH Randy
Tennis racket wrap works great. Find it in your local walmart or sporting goods store. It usually comes with 2 or 3 in a package. Costs about $5 or $6. Once it gets too dirty, just change it.
One thing I forgot to mention though about this digital camo wrap, is that after a week or so you'll notice it will start to "feel" sticky. You can take it off, wash it, then reapply it and it wont feel real sticky anymore. The shaft will feel sticky after you remove it, but a quick wipe down and you're good to go. It wont ruin anything if left on. Pretty cheap stuff too. Grabbed it on the 'Bay, and love that it's self-adhesive.
Yours must be stickier than mine? Once I put it on it stuck good to itself. But when I pulled some off it didn't want to stick to itself as good as the first time. I think I'll leave it on until it wears out. This Vet wrap seems interesting and cheap.
One, it looks good with the digital camo rain cover on the control box, and also, if you walk in the woods or just have a tendency to bump it into things, it will keep it scratch free. I did it because it looks cool to me.
The same reason you would buy an enviromental cover for the control head - protection against scratches mostly. Also made my grip feel better. Plus it will fetch a higher price if I decide to ever sell it.
It's so when they lay the machine down in the woods, they cannot find it and then I come along and BAM, I have another E-Trac. No, it's to protect the machine. I don't use it, but I do use the Pro-Tector Padded E-Trac Cover.
I use tape to protect the foam grip from dust, dirt and tears. Get wound tape at any drug store or Walmarts, Meijers etc. This tape is non sticky and adheres to itself. Wrap this around your grip and then take padded vinyl bicycle handlebar tape that will stick to the wound tape and secure ends with electrical tape. The vinyl tape adds cushioning and wipes clean with a damp cloth mine has been on for two years and is still going strong. If you decide to change it or just take it off the wound tape protects from the stickum from the handlebar tape.
