Anyone know of a good handheld GPS the will allow you to put in your latitude & longitude?

Garmin MAP60csx. The trex is a toy, you won't be happy.

I love my Garmin Etrex Legend HCx. Once you learn it, there's really not much you can't do. Amazing device!

You might prowl through the GPS and mapping sections of the forum. I can't say I know all the ins and out of hand held GPS, but I've never heard of one that you can't put co-ordinates in. I've used several of the earlier Magellan Sport trak models and currently am using a Garmin Etrex Vista hcx with good results. Many, if not all, the more recent devices have improved reception when under trees, in canyons etc. than the earlier models and that's something that you may need to be concerned about.

I have a Garmin and I usually just mark the location I am standing at and the go in and change the name, to what I want to call the location and also change the coordinates to the new ones I want. I think most GPS units allow you to alter the information after you save a location, but I could be wrong.

As I mentioned above, I don't know all the differences from one GPS to another, but it just doesn't make sense to design one that you couldn't put locations into one way or another.

I think every road GPS has the option to enter your current location and record a name for it, my magellan does.
But a handheld unit can get you within 9-12 ft of your actual location. I can see the lat/long change as I walk with my Garmin 60csx.
The problem with the handheld so far ... entering location descriptions is a pain.

I have a Garmin Legend HCx and it works really good. It's difficult and time consuming for me to rename a location in the field, so I take a pencil and note pad along to write down what each 'mark' number location is and name them when I get home. The maps is what makes the handheld unit so helpful. Just transfer the info from the handheld unit to your computer and use the keyboard to make your changes and to create files. Trust me, get the map CD.

Tabman is pretty much right on. However, it's fairly easy to make a note of the "mark" number and keep an external list, as well. I fuss manually with renaming these at my leisure at home.

There was only one that was VERY accurate. I don't remember the name, but it was not garmin or magellan and it was thousands, but it could mark your location to within a foot or less i think. The others are not very accurate but good for finding your way.

if you have a Android based phone... there are a TON of apps and a few really good ones that let give you lat/long, let you 'mark' it, run 'paths' etc....

they are great for metal detecting and fairly easy to use....

I think you are refering to the Trimble units. Yes, very $$$ but they are accurate down to inches.
