Anyone know if its common for cold to affect Pinpointer?

This past weekend we had our first cold temps this year that I had been out in. I got a Harbor Fright Metal Detector Pinpointer the other day and wanted to try it out, air test was better than most probes with test going to a little over 2" on a quarter and priced at @ 14.00 the price was good. I took it out and the temp was @ 40 deg. F and the Sensitivity Adjustment quit working until I warmed it back up. The range dropped to about 1/2"..... I was wondering if this is common in all pinpointers?

Thanks and HH Rick

I've noticed a drop in performance in colder weather which I'm inclined to blame on the cold affecting the battery, but haven't actually done a formal test on that.

I have used my Garrett ProPointer in low temperatures and it hasn't seemed to effect it .I don't any other kind of pinpointer so I don't know if it effects others or not.If the battery is good you should be ok
