Anyone know anything about this 5900

I picked up this 5900 and the signal balance is on the front instead of the top...Any one running these......I heard they were only made about 1 year...

seems to run smoother than some of the other 5900/Blue& gray's I have had....seems real deep ....

I wonder about the lack of hot rock accept ///reject it does not have that...is it in Reject all the time?

any help appreciated...

Keith

I have one of these, my mother got it(at a garage sale I think)for my brother, close to 20 years ago and he never used it at all. I snagged from my bro just a few years ago, yet I never used it until May of this year after I got a battery pack for it...I'd never metal detected myself. I'll tell ya, I drained the coins and treasures from my front yard here at home, lots of stuff too IMO! I still use mine on occasion even though I bought a V3i in the summer.

Once you get the ground balancing routine down, and it's rather a simple process, plus get the SB control peaked while remaining stable, you'll like the detector. I don't know about the reject question you asked but iron makes the audio threshold drop out. I can honestly say that I've dug deeper targets with the 5900(9"+) than I have with the V3i(6" tops.) The 5900 is a very reliable unit and I still enjoy swinging it. Mine works great for a detector that was stored in a garage for these decades of time and not used. martin

Basically all I can say its a heavy oldie but goodie..As far as the signal balance the earlier Eagles which I used had them and just set them at preset as I could never figure them out. I would E-mail Jimmy Sierra as I know he had some comments on this feature in an early Whites video.....

It looks like the 'D' rings are missing from your hip mount detector. The hip mounts were oriented more toward gold hunters, so there was no hot rock accept or reject, and the sig balance, which is the most often adjusted control when operating the the highly mineralized ground containing gold, is mounted in easy reach.
As far as your detector goes, it is always in accept, which helps account for the greater depths you are experiencing.
