I may have a chance to buy and 12 excelertor coil for my dfx, at a good price. Just wondering If anyone has used one, like how is the weight compaired to the stock coil, and depth compaired to the stock 9.5?

I tried one and wasn't impressed with the depth. I got the same depth with the 950. It was also quite a bit heavier.

In my ground, I preferred the DD coils over the stock concentric and the EX 12 was my favorite on the DFX until the 12X10 came out. The 12X10 worked better in trash with a search field of about 1 inch wide. I don't think the EX12 has been made for quite a few years but it was a goodie in it's day.

The trick to counter the extra weight of the 12 is to turn the coil/lower rod 180 degrees so the biggest part of the coil is toward you. It looks a little funny but balances really nice and doesn't affect how the coil works. There are better coils now and I don't think I would buy another one but for hunting deep coins, the EX12 was about as good as you could get at the time for the DFX.

The black SEF10X12 can be found once in a while for a pretty good price..... less than $100. I still use the black one on my V3i and very happy with it.
