Anyone know about horseshoes?

I've found my share of horse shoes before, but I have never seen one like this. It is made out of a light weight silver colored metal, probably aluminum, with a leather pad glued to the back. Anyone ever heard of an aluminum horseshoe?

I have 2 of them ive found also. I assume they arent crazy old as aluminum wasnt widely used until the 30s or 40s i believe. .. im not a horse person but i suppose the light weight would help the horse run faster...

I also think they were used in horse racing.

It appears to have been nailed on with iron or steel nails. Some rusted nails are still in the horseshoe.

They were lightweight and , for that number of furlongs, be it 3 to 8, would work nicely.. That being said, we only got one race per set of shoes.. it was a pretty expensive system of shoing the horses
