Anyone hunt the beaches near Freeport, TX ?

Terrible Tom

New member
Hello all. This is my first post in this forum and would like some advice on hunting the beaches near Freeport, TX. I travel to Houston three or four times a year and would like to hunt some beaches. I live in SW Missouri and have just started metal detecting. I have a Minelab X-Terra 70 with the standard nine inch medium frequency coil. If any one hunts in that area I would appreciate any advice you are willing to part with. Thanks in advance, I enjoy reading other members posts about beach hunting.

Hello TT
I don't hunt the freeport area but have been down there in past years, I hunt up at Galveston.
In past years there was some fair hunting in both of these area's but it's slim pickings at them now, not to
say you won't find anything, but "IKE" took so much sand off the beaches and the power's that be saw
fit to re-sand them with what ever sand they could it's not like it used to be. If you are going there anyway
then give it a shot but I wouldn't make a special there just to hunt it. This end of the coast was hit hard
and I think it will take some year's to really make it worth the effort but you never know what the next beep
will be. Never going is never knowing! Good luck!

I've hunted Port Aransas . Freeport ought to be about the same . I don't bother to go to the beach unless it's at the tail end of a bad Norther .

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice. I am not sure when in January I will be in Houston, but I hope it is not cold.

If you want to hunt near the jetty at Freeport(Surfside) you might have to move down the beach a ways toward the old pier, they are in the middle of a beach replenishment project at this time. Lots of new sand coming in every day. Galveston beaches can be a good alternative also. Stewart beach saw a lot of people this summer.
