ANYONE HAVE FEEDBACK 0N BLUE& GRAY DETECTOR:help:

C.J.M.

Well-known member
Would appreciate any feed back on the old blue&gray metal detector from whites.Thank you.cjm

The Whites Blue and Grey was a 5900di Pro SL with the meter showing relics instead of coins. Excellent detector with good depth and a meter that locks on good targets. I have a 5900di Pro SL that I have
used for years with no issues, however it sits in the closet now as it is a bit heavy for my 75 year old arms.........

Yes sir i will be 77 in a few weeks with 3 spinal fusions, one neck fusion, and just got a complete right shoulder replacement:stretcher:,but i will not give up the hunt it will take a year to mend and just finish 9 weeks of therapy:surrender:
Will the b&g any good on coins besides relics? Not to many relics here?Thank you cjm

It is basically a 5900 Di Pro SL

First thing to know is that you need to be well versed at setting up a threshold based all metal mode and doing a proper manual ground balance setting to get the most out of it. I have had one for 10 years and really like it a lot, it has to be learned and used a lot to take advantage of all it's analog controls. I set mine up with a high Signal Balance (Pre Amp Gain) and a slightly positive Ground Balance setting when checked in the Normal All Metal Mode.

...I'm 65 years old and work out 3 times a week and can handle the weight, it is heavy but well balanced. It is a fast to moderate sweep speed machine but when set up with the 6½" 5.3 concentric coil combined with a 'hot' Signal Balance setting... the sweep speed can be slowed somewhat for picking through the trashy sections.

Yes, it will work fine for coins. I think it will have a series of numbers from 0 to 100 on the meter. All you need to do is run various coins over the coil and write down what number shows under the needle. Then you should be able to tell what ever coins you find.

The White's 6000 Di Series 3 was very popular for both Coin & Jewelry Hunters as well as Relic Hunters, mainly in eastern US states who did a lot of hunting in Revolutionary War and Civil War era sites. They wanted a display for 'relic' type finds such as buttons, buckles, bullets, etc. The display face was changed from the regular 6000 'foil, 'coin' and tab' oriented display. When the 6000 Di Pro was introduced in mid-April of '85 it was White's intention for it to then be the top dawg with the new Auto-Tracking circuitry and replace the 6000 Di Series 3..

Many of us, me definitely included for performance reasons, wanted and preferred the faithful 6000 Series 3 with manual GB. Well, it was discontinued, and there had been too many models with a '6000' name attached to them by that point, so White's saw the light and heard the demands and brought out the manual GB version with a new name, the 5900 Di Pro in 1986. Same basic detector, different model name, but same features and performance.

All they did for the 'Blue & Gray' versions was change the back-plate in the display behind the meter needle. They were still the same great Coin & Jewelry Hunting, Beach Hunting and Relic hunting detectors that had always been, just a different display to indicate 'relics'.

Just had to chime in. I love the blue & gray here in Va. I own two. One has a volume control and the other does not. I only hunt relics but often find deep old coins. I use aa battery adapters and it does help with the weight.
Have fun with yours!

Last year I bought a new unused 5900 DI Pro still in it's original box, I phoned Whites and they told me it was made in August 1989 and i got the manual with it, it is quite brutal when it comes to power, it has more Horsepower than any modern machine out there and I love the GB setup and the fact that you can use the Disc to further eliminate ground noise, In normal soils these old machines will rival a PI machine for depth.
