It looks like it was well maintained. But here is the rub...I need to get my hands on a charger. I am borrowing a friends charger tomorrow just to be sure mine is not DOA., but I am excited. My wife has been bugging me for about 5 years to give up relic and coin hunting and start finding her some jewelry.

i just bought a used one last fall ...ive only taken it to the beach once... it did ok.. quarters a foot deep etc etc.. when beach hunting i like the sov gt with wot coil... personally myself ive had better luck finding more tiny gold ( studs, earings etc) with the whites 5900 with 5.3 coil.. lately though ive been taking the excal-1000 out to the colonial areas ive been hunting for years and ive been learning the machine and having more success with it... for what ever reason it seems that i can swing the excal slower than the sov gt and get a crisper signal on good targets and a more broken signal on junk....for this reason i was able to pull 2-half cents and a large cent out of a spot i had worked to death with the gt .. main reason i bought the excal-1000 is during summer vacation i love working the water line and shallow surf but hate taking the risk of getting my gt wet..... i cant wait to try it out in the water ..... good luck..

I've owned one blue 800..... two 1000's..., old blue 1000 and now two of the Excalibur II 1000's. I liked the blue a lot as it was a great machine. I wore it out and so I traded it in for a newer 1000 II. Done all the mods......Peltor headphones, 1600 MAH battery, straight shaft, WOT coil. Not sure which one I like best. The old one was nice. So is the new one. The sound on the old one was just a bit smoother......but I've gotten so used to the new 1000 II that I can't really say that one was better than the other.

Not having a visual meter as with the Excalibur was a change for me that made my using the E-trac easier. Using the Excalibur, I had to learn to listen instead of watching the meter. Sort of like being blind and depending only on your hearing. Your hearing becomes the main sense and allows you to do things that sighted people just can't do with their hearing. Same with detectors. I got away from using the E-trac as the price of gold and silver was rising and the beaches and water were still a viable place to hunt. Now that gold is above $1500, no one is wearing gold on the beach as it is too dangerous for them to do so without getting robbed. So I'm changing my tactics and hitting historic beaches...not the most popular now, but the ones used a hundred years ago....the ones used when silver was still in our coins and gold was something you wore not something you sold at the pawn shop to buy gasoline.

I gave it a little charge and powered it up. It worked on my gold ring on my finger. I can't wait to get it outside tomorrow!

Hi Neal, I love mine and I'm still getting used to all the variables in and out of the fresh water here in Michigan. So far this year I've found 16 rings, 2 very nice necklaces, a Waterville MFG Co. button from the 1800's. (Still looks very nice and usable), tons of clad, wheaties and four Indian Head Pennies. One of the three rings I found yesterday is a real beauty!!! Very wide Gold ring, with 32 diamonds in a large diamond shape on the top of the ring, with beautiful carved designs on either side of the ring. I Love the Excal ll 1000........ Looking to get another one to keep as a back up, just to make sure I won't have to be without if this one goes down..)

Arlen

P.s. I dig everything, and one of the main reasons you ask..................Found a real beautiful Silver Ring yesterday, wading in hip deep water, down about 12 inches, that sounded like the 1970 Michigan License Plate I dug up at almost 17 inches...... A Bloop agghh gargling coughing whale, kind of sound....................... had me laughing when I was digging, thinking I'm such a knucklehead and VOILA~ A Silver Beauty

I always dig every sound....This tiny Victorian gold brooch sounded like foil when I dug it today with my V3i.

That is beautiful!!!! Are those other items buttons, and are you digging old war sites?

Rocky!

Those other items are all buttons. I have been hitting this particular site for more than 4 years. I have now found more than 300 buttons, various colonial and post colonial copper, silver, and gold jewelry, and more than 20 coins which all predate 1840 (with the exception of one 1857 half dime). Some of you may have seen some of my posts in the V3i forum and other forums.

The site is not an old war site, but I think it may have played a role in the Underground Railroad. There must have been a camp because everything is found in a relatively small area.

None of those buttons are military, but I have found approximately a dozen or so 1812 era military buttons at the site.

I have photos of many of these on my website, just check out my profile for the link.

Thanks for the comments!
