Nope, you answered your own question, it's a gold machine. It will have you digging every small low conductive target like little itty bitty pieces of foil and bird shot. There are better machines for silver and they need discrimination, somthing the GMT does not have.
 
Hombre is correct. Lower frequency machines do better on the high conductors like silver. The GMT has no real discrimination like the usual coin and jewelry detectors, it only has iron discrimination so every little bit of foil and aluminum would drive you crazy.
