Anyone have a solution for "floppiness"?????? Help

Dear Garrett if you are reading this! It is so frustrating! We have finally received the solid coil covers, great. Used a few times, absolute pain in the butt! Fills up with sand (so cut holes in it).

Now to top it off, the coil (sandard) flops around. I can imagine you guys / other ATX users have seen this as well. Try to ground balance..and the coil slowly drops. Have been VERY careful not to over tighten the screw on the coil, but it is FAST RUNNING OUT OF ADJUSTMENT! I can feel another complaint letter coming!

Has anyone got a solution for this? If the screw is removed, can the bushing be modified for replaced by the end user? has anyone tried this? Would hate to have to send the coil to the USA for a 'rubber bush'.

Think how 'floppy' those deep seeker coils are (or will be soon). Very disappointed in this aspect of the design also.

Anyone have advice??

Sorry....links to EBay not allowed on Findmall Forum. Although a possible good solution, perhaps the manufacturer of this could call the Administrator at Findmall and follow the same rules that other Findmall Supporters have.

Good luck! It really would be nice to see these and get repoerts on their performance.

Have you contacted Garrett? There were some units that have had this issue but Garrett did fix them. The only pain in the rear part is sending the coil back to be repaired.

Hope this helps.

Hi dmnz....

I had the same coil floppy problem last Fall when I received my ATX. I had to tighten the screw so tight that the rubber bushing started shredding.

If you contact Garrett and review the problem with them, they should send you a new coil at no charge. And then put your old coil in the box and send it back.

The replacement coil Garrett sent me has held up so far without flopping. Someone on this forum said Garrett is working on a design change for the coil hinge, so we'll see.

Dear Garrett!

Over the last months since this email conversation began the ATX coil now seems to have developed the issue where it cannot be tightened.

I have always been very careful with the machine, and have only tightened the screw on the coil a handful of times, however, it now has

Dmz you got supercheap near by .. or repco .. get a can of stop squeak for fan belts . Take the screw out. Get a pair of vice grips squeeze the joint till the coil is not floppy then get a hair dryer and heat that area up you want it hot but not melting. Let that cool down . Spay in some fan belt stop squeak. It's sticky shit. Then put In the screw and tighten up .. it's a fix but it's not long term but works. Or get Garrett to replace the coil ..

wow - cheers for the suggestions. Pity with such as expensive machine, something as simple as holding a coil tight is an issue! I will ask Garrett to come to the party and send me a new one, they are a good company so hopefully they will sort it out.

I did just order the bracket as a backup in case I'm out detecting and I have an issue. I'll reply back once I get it.

Thanks for the link Dale!

Ordered a couple myself, Not sure how it works but the portion it does show from the picture looks professional made.
