Anyone have a GTAX 1250?

I just picked up a used GTAX 1250 that looks to be in great shape. I would like some feedback on this machine. Is it great, does it stink or is it somewhere in between? Thanks...

I don't think it stinks. I had one several years ago and it performed well. The coil was very sensitive at first. It would false if you swept grass. I remedied that problem by pulling the coil wire tighter around the rod. Good luck with it.

The 1250 was my first detector ever, bought it back in '99 and I still have it and will never part with it. It has found me a bunch of goodies over the years. Even tho I now have a veritable stable of detectors, the 1250 is still my favorite. Solid well built little workhorse!!

Thanks for the input so far. Being this is about 10 year old technology, does it go as deep as the equivalent detectors put out today? How does it stack up to an Ace 350?

The GTAx1250 is a really great machine and one of my favorites. It's definitely a step up frome the Ace 350. Just because a machine is ten years old doesn't mean it won't get the depth of a new machine that's put out today. In fact there are metal detectors that are over twenty years old that are just as deep and deeper than those put out today. I'm not saying that the Ace 350 isn't a good machine. It's a great metal detector and probably the most economical pick for a good relic hunting machine. The GTAx1250 has many more features than the Ace 350. Tweny four target ID notch segments as opposed to twelve. Backlight, Salt Elimination feature, volume, tone, frequency change, tri-level audio system to mention a few.
It is about a pound heavier than Ace 350, but you can always hip-mount the battery pack to take that pound off the detector.

Thanks Metalhead for your feedback. I'm feeling good about the detector. I just ordered a sniper coil for it and I'm going to take it out for the first time next week to one of the local parks. I do like the look and feel of it better than the Ace detectors.

Went on my first hunt today with my 1250. I spent about 5 minutes in the back yard and dug up a 22 shell at about 4 inches and dug another hole down to 10 inches before giving up for now. My little shovel handle was below ground. I guess the 1250 does go pretty deep. I read in the manual to turn it on with the coil about a foot off the ground to help it adjust to the ground. That seemed to work. I bought it with the newer 9 x 12 coil on it, I guess that helps too.

I don't have a GTAx1250 but I do have a GTAx750 and it works pretty good, I usually find a nice amount of coins in an hour or two at a local park. Best of luck with your detector and HH
