Anyone have a bad experience hunting in the rain with non-waterproof White's detector?

I was out today with my DFX when it started to rain. I didn't want to leave because the Utility Co. just dumped a fresh load of fill. My dog and I stayed about an hour detecting but I got so worried about my detector getting wet we finally left. Any insight from anyone? HH. Matt

went to a swimming area day after labor day last year,,that is when that beach is open for detecting ...it was raining very steady and i could not believe the number of people using non waterproof detectors in the rain...eventually most wrapped plastic sandwich or grocery bags around them ...its days like that that i am glad i have an excal.....

Matthias, if it rained significantly on the unit. I would let it dry out for couple of days. You may have been running it when raining with no issues. However, moisture can seep in to vital electronics a few hours later. When you power up hours later/next day......Major Problems. Not saying it will happen...but can happen. Your call.

OK. My DFX got wet. No problems that day. Let it sit for 2 days just in case. Fired it up and no problems. Did I take a chance? Yes, I believe I did. Would I do it again? Not likely. But when you have nothing to do all day it's hard not to grab the detector and go. HH. Matt

[size=large]that's why you buy a good rain/dust cover. they do work.

Did you know that one of the best ways to dry out an electronic item that has been exposed to water is to cover it with dry rice fo a day or two....check out these links:
