Anyone familiar with Bounty Hunter Platinum?

My buddies dad has Bounty Hunter Ultra Mag that he'd bought at Cabelas. He's going to buy it from his dad in turn his dad is looking at upgrading.

Cabelas has the Bounty Hunter Platinum but there doesn't seem to be very much info out there.

Link to Cabelas Bounty Hunter Platinum

I did some checking on the internet and did find where a guy using it mentioned that it took the Fisher coils vs the Bounty Hunter coils.

Any info as to what the caliber machine it is or isn't would be appreciated! Being that it takes the Fisher coils (and BH along with Fisher being affiliated)- is it an equivalent to one of the Fisher F models?

From what it looks it's the same as a Teknetics Gamma 6000. I've heard good reviews for the 8000 and just a brief search found all good on the 6000. JMO, caliber, low-high end or high-mid range. Others would have a different opinions. Not a bad machine. Good luck.

Thanks!! That does look to be the EXACT machine. I appreciate it.

Hi bjgiff,

The BH Platinum isn't exactly the same as the Gamma 6000. There are a couple of small differences. The BH Platinum only has the 1/8" headset plug instead of both 1/8" & 1/4" and it doesn't have quite the range of sensitivity adjustments of the Gamma. Also, a slight difference in how to manually ground balance. Otherwise very close in features and most likely the same in overall performance. The rod and handle are different also.

I have the Platinum and really like it so far. It is sensitive and very stable. Real good battery life as well. You are correct about the coils.....Platinum requires the Teknetics coils. So far I haven't found that I need the extra features that are on the Gamma.

When Cabelas throws the Platinum on sale it is the way to go. For $299 it is a bargain. At regular price though the Gamma would be the better buy for the same money in my opinion because of the extra features.

I bought mine on sale at Cabelas for 299.00 several months ago and I like it very much. I like the all button controls, makes it very easy to operate with one hand. Very stable and quiet. I use the 11" DD coil most of the tme and it works great.

$299 does seem like a pretty great deal.. how often do they put it on sale for that price..
Does Cabelas sell a version of the 8000 ??
