Anyone familiar with Aquapulse circuit board?

This is an older version of the Aquapulse underwater metal detector. It came with a 45 inch probe with a 4 prong plug which seems unique. A knob is missing which I believe is the audio knob and internally that knob is sealed off. The circuit board seems to be modified because a smaller PCB is tie wrapped to the main board and a small pot is on this second board. Another component on the main board doesn't seem to connect to anything. Replaced the battery with a 3 AMP and added a ikelite fitting for the battery charger and headphone connection and it powers up!

It makes a tone that can be varied. The small pot on the small PCB can be turned about half a turn and it varies the tic speed. I've never seen the inside of an Aquapulse before.

Is anyone familiar with this unit and can guess what has been modified and why?
I'm guessing maybe it had a leak and someone with some skills made it work?
It's just a project, I have other toys to play with.

Thanks for any input.

There are a number of detector electronic guru's there and if there isn't already schematics, somebody might have one.
