Anyone ever use a DetectorPro PI detector in Hawaii?

How well did it work? I have a Whites SurfMaster PI Pro that I got rid of because it was just too noisy here in Hawaii with the lava mineralized sand. I'd have to turn the gain extremely, way down low to keep the noise tolerable, and/or raise the coil several inches. In either case the effective gain was significantly reduced. How did the DetectorPro PI work for you here? I'm considering getting one but I don't want to go through the same thing.
