Anyone ever try Li-FeS2 batteries for the GT?

I usually use alkaline AA batteries. I was looking at rechargeable ones, which only come in 1.2 v or 1.65v [diff chem]. This puts rechargeable ones out of the equation for now.

The Li-FeS2 is at 1.5 v but from what I read is a bit stronger and they are not rechargeable. Just curious if anyone has put them in their machines, mainly the GT, but anyone who has used them as well. hh gl -Joe

From what I have been able to read about rechargeable batteries is that the lower quality batteries have less MA capacity and therefore the voltage level drops below what the Gt needs to operate much quicker than say a NIMH battery with upwards of 2500ma capacity.

Also I have read where guys used the Eneloop AA rechargeable batteries (Expensive) with very good success.

I've also heard that about the Eneloops AA's George mentioned,

I have not tried them afield yet..I really WANT to though, its just so convenient to buy a 48 pack of coppertops at Sams Club..I keep a big riff of them in my vehicle....my greatest fear about rechargeables is my charger and batteries will be stolen for other worthless household purposes....which I am sure they will....I'll get up of a morning, want to do a hunt, and all my batteries will be missing!

If you are a single fellow with no kids, then maybe you will be OK with rechargeables...for the rest of us, Lord how we suffer..!:sadwalk:

That could just as easily happen with AAs...... ive had them taken out of the case before got to the beach and found out the Grandson took two out. As long as you get say the 2500 MaH rechargables you should have lasting power before they drop off. Lipos you kind of have to watch the DCV. I know on the Explorers it has a big note..... dont use lipos because they produce more than a total of 13 DCV. So apparently it might burn out what ever controls the voltage to the coil. Ive always been very succesful with the rechargables that come with the machine on the MLs..... other detectors seemed to fall off performance wise after have empty.

I have tried AA rechargeable batteries a couple of times without good results.I took a stock alkaline GT pack and hollowed it out to fit 10 rechargeable AAA 1200 OHMS in and this has worked well the last three seasons.A female connector was also installed on this pack to match the old Sovereign charger so the batteries can be charged in the pack. This set up is cheap and works, best part after a couple of seasons you can just replace the worn out batteries with newer ones.
