Anyone Ever Prank Their Detecting Buddy?

I once slipped a penny under my buddy's coil cover when he wasn't looking, and watched him cuss for 20 minutes, until I couldn't hold my laughter anymore.

I got pranked real good about a dozen years ago at a large two day detecting event. Since we were staying on site overnight we BBQ'd steaks and shrimp the first night for dinner. After dinner and "feeling GOOD" I decided to hunt a little after dinner. Long story short I ended up to my elbow chasing a signal that was really my buddy alternately tossing a zinc and another guy distracting me to retrieve it so they could get me to keep digging. There was a ring of detectorists around me choking their laughs who were in in the prank. I actually have a picture taken with me up to my elbow. What a laugh in the end. That group routinely called me "Maniac".
HH !

Way back in the early 1980's while overseas I along with another detectorist we were hosted to a hunt in a grape field that was the location of a long gone castle and civil war action. Only a few targets but the "silver" was amazing. So much so we did not want to dig the bronze and copper. On the long trip back to the hotel, our host could not control his prank any longer and fessed up that he had bought the "silver" at a price that was TOO GOOD to be true. And it was, the coins he bought were fake! So he planted a few for his friends to find and enjoy some of his misfortune. What a let down, but I was very pleased with two of my genuine find a 282 Roman coin and 2000 year old spear point I found. I still have all the finds along with parts from an old flint lock rifle.
For me, the memories of such pranks and friendships outweigh the commercial value of a find. Heck, are we not all here to have fun and enjoy our hobby that is always full of surprises? I sure am.
