Anyone ever find any old silver coins (walking liberty, standing liberty, barbers, etc.) in Utah?

I have been hunting in Utah for years and have yet to find any older silver coins. Just wondering if anyone has had better luck than me.

Yes infrequently though. Hunt the fringe areas of the older parks and curb strips in older areas within the older areas. The parks here in Utah have been hit hard every time a new machine comes out. I convert my clad to gold by buying nuggets with it. I usually am able to buy a gram a month or more. Not a lot by some, but if gold keeps going up - Bingo!
I used to buy silver eagles but they think they’re gold now. Silver hangs near 30 bucks and the mint wants outrageous prices.

I’m not sure where in Utah u hunt but the older areas I refer too is the old boundary of Salt Lake when the city was first established and set by Brigham Young as primarily 9th west, 9th south, 9th east and the Avenues. Also the area known as Chesterfield out in West Valley where the old wagon trail crosses the Jordon river that went west in the 1800’s. Get some old maps and check it out. Might just find some scarcely hunted areas along there. Although Pioneer Park downtown is marked on all 4 corners as Historical it can be hunted if done properly. A friend and I recently repaired a large area where someone took a shovel in there and dug huge plugs and just tossed them at the holes. I guess they have been watching bad actors on UTube using shovels. We took a tamper and tamped then in and knitted the edges best we could and poured fertilizer mix around the plug so it would repair faster. We only use probes in parks and if needed cut a u plug, fold it back and use a cloth to dig deeper if needed so the dirt goes back, the plug gets replaced and stepped on. I have heard that Murray Park now requires a permit from the city. When you see areas being scalped for new construction follow the trucks to where they dump the dirt. Sometimes it is accessible to hunt. Good luck.

I totally agree. I hunt mostly parks and good schools and try to leave the area looking like I was never there. I use a screw driver as you mentioned and only rarely cut a plug. I was at a school in West Valley last week and ran into some plugs like you mentioned. They were cut very poorly and just thrown back in the hole. I did my best to fix it. It is really frustrating. Thanks for the tips on the sites in WV. I live in WV and wii definitely check out the old maps. Also thanks for the heads up on Murray Park. I have been thinking about going over there.

They have been doing a sidewalk tear out along 7th east from Liberty Park going south. I haven’t jumped in but have seen a few guys there in the evenings. I hunt Liberty a lot but things are deep there. A guy dug a gold coin there on the north east corner last summer. I got a barber dime and an indianhead there . Most are deep. Have to use big coils and go real slow. Lots of trash. West Valley was my playground in the 90’s. Lots of places out there. It’s growing still lots of places gone now. Still fringe areas like Hunter Park are not hunted out.
I’m in So. salt Lake. I have the Orx, D1&D2, & Manticore. A guy using the Legend with the 6” coil ferreted out a 1940 class ring around a tree last week in Liberty Park. Hang in there, I missed the class ring so guess I swung from a different angle or something.
