although my wife encourages me to get out and go hunting.when i get home and show her my finds it seems like the 1st words out of her mouth are WHATS IT WORTH.

ARE WE RICH YET ????? :garrett:

everytime she says that=arrrrrrgggg, been doin it for centuries= (well it seems like centuries anyway):surrender:

Mine also.
I bring home the usual trash and junk. she seldom even sees that as that gets tossed into the big bucket in the garage. When I show her the typical handfull of clad she gives it a polite going over. However when the coins are rolled is the time she gives all my finds a noticable (and appreciative) evaluation.

My wife looks at it as kinda like wages. I can show her a hand full of change and she makes some smart remark like, "gee, you must be up to 50 cents per hour by now". We are both semi-retired but she put in more hours than me so I think she gets a little "hacked off" because I have more time to play.

Mine too! Actually, I do some of EBay sales from estate sales, bin auctions, etc and she does the same thing. "How much did we make on this and that?" What she doesn't realize is that the EBay sales is my "squirrel money" for buying detecting items so we don't have to dig into the family budget. HHaaaa, what family budget...she thinks it's all hers!!!!

Ya'll Actually get to go out and detect.:surprised: GEEZ that must be nice..:surprised: At least SHE LETS me go 2 hours a week. One day I will be able to go all day.:clapping: She tells me "You still haven't paid those detectors off yet."

I'm like roseon3rd when it comes to money - I generate other money for detecting purchases, aside from family money.
Or I trade one thing for another, and always keep turning the same money over.
In the end, I don't "throw money" away on detecting.

So there is never a threat to from that, and little need to make comparisons based on money.

As far as time spent detecting, I only spend what is rightfully mine. I'm home in time to do whatever needs doing and to spend time together. I don't make her a detecting widow.

What she mostly says when I bring something to show off is, "Oh, cool!"
If it's a nice jewelry item, she just wants to wear it.

Otherwise she doesn't complain about it.

Next time she brings home a new purse, dress or thing that hangs on the wall - just say "what did that cost me". Then you'll have plenty of time to hunt with no remarks from her when your out on the street! I keep my detector cash in my Paypal account. If I want (need) something I sell something to generate some cash. It's best to sell something that your wife just bought!

Since before she became ill my wife was my hunting partner so she just wants to see what I found when I get home from tecting and every day if it's nice out she will urge me to get out and go tecting - which I do. I know it kills her because she can't go but she makes every effort to see that I get out there.

sounds like i"m lucky my wife lets me go detecting one day every weekend & sometimes i pop out after work.
i"v got a deal with the wife i keep all the $1-$2 coins & the silvers 50c-20c-10c-5c go on the mortgage witch helps the family & i"m like dahut the money i find pays for my detecting gear & most of my other Hobbes's the jewellery gets spit 50% between me & the wife when sold.
