anyone compared Vance vs. gray ghost wireless headphones for the XP Deus

Has anyone actually used both the Vance and the Gray Ghost wireless headphones for the XP Deus? I have the Howard Leight ones and am not thrilled by the sound quality and i do not like the tight fit as well as the cups just barely cover the ears. Or are there other options that are good that I am not knowing about?
i have been mostly using the Deus backphones and i like the sound quality but there are times that i need the full cup headphones.
thanks all and HH

I have both. Only used the GG once so far. Wasn't too impressed with audio vs the HL but fit was much better.

that figures... better fit but less good audio. probably the other way around with the other ones, right? what do you mean by HL? is that the Vance ones? if so then that are the ones that i have. i don't like the fit or the sound. Hopefully there are some that will both fit well and sound good...

I thought the sound of the Vance/HL headset was pretty good but the fit was terrible until I took matters into my own hands and modified them. I replaced the headband with the headband from a set of Harbor Freight $7 hearing protectors which were the same style and then super glued the pads from those same protectors onto the HL ear pads to make them deep enough to not smash the ears down. I would have returned the Vance muffs soon after I got them because of the fit but broke the original headband piece trying to bend them into a comfortable enough size to be wearable.

I have not used the GG headphones specific to the Deus but have used GG Ultimates and the adapter clip and the sound is a bit more bass than the Vance/HL. Both GGs use a 150 ohm speaker according to the manufacturer. I don't know what the ohm rating on the Vance muffs are but I think the XP headphones for the the Deus are either 16 or 32 ohm.

Google Sergei Upstateny , he tested both and liked the Vance muffs and I think Andy Sabisch did as well.

hummmm... i wonder if we can get 32 ohm speakers and replace those in the GG's.... better comfort and maybe better sound...

What about the Deus WS5 head phones? Are they larger and more comfortable
or are they smaller to the degree that they press against the ear?

I originally had the WS5 setup and the XP headphones are difficult to criticize. They're very comfortable and sound as good as a Deus can sound. I'll bet they have the same speakers as the backphones but sound a little better because of the noise canceling. The controller is fixed however and even though it is bigger and easier to read , using it to make setting changes while detecting has got to be a real PITA. I wanted the WS4 arrangement so I could use my choice of headphones with the aid of the adapter clip. I seldom use anything but the backphones but at least I have that option.

Me too sprchng. I like the backphones most of the time but also like the option of using full cover headphones if needed. I just would like ones that sound as good as the backphones and are as comfortable as the gray ghosts.
But I wonder if I could take out the speakers in a set of backphones and replace the speakers in a set of grey ghosts? Does anyone with that sort of expertise know if that's possible?

I bought a set of Vance phones also. I found the earpads to be too shallow or thin I guess, and they would press against my ears.
I found these on eBay and never looked back, they are so comfortable now, just too warm for the summer.
These were not a direct fit however so I had to modify them to work. I traced the stock earpads on a plastic milk bottle and cut them out.
Bought some good quality double sided tape, and taped the cutouts to the new gel pads. These Vancephones are great for colder weather hunting and they sound great.
Just my two cents.......
I can post some pics if you guys would like.

Very cool undertoe. That looks like it will help with the comfort part for sure. Pictures would be nice if you feel like it.

That's a great idea with the gel ear seals---wish I had known about it before and may try it on some other phones anyway.
martygene the wired backphones from XP were just $22 I think and have the same speakers as the wireless ones. I use them in the Summer on all my detectors because they sound so nice. You might be able to install them in a set of comfortable full coverage phones if you're adventurous enough. If I tried it I would end up with TWO sets that don't work.

I think I'll give it a try. Once I get a set of backphones to sacrifice that is. Than we'll see if I end up with a good pair of headphones or, like you say, I'll have rwo sets that don't work.

WS5's are excellent. Agree with the above post though...using the headphone control module to run the detector settings is a PIA, so I just set it and forget it!

Hey fellas we have actually acquired better pads for the headphones and have started using them on our last run, If anyone is interested in a set of Vancemuffs my contact info is below, I also have a nice set of ws5's to get rid of.. PM me for details.. We will be offering these larger ear pads soon for sale but they will be included with headphone purchases starting last week or so.. I would also like to know if the grate inside rubs anyones ear.. please let me know via email or PM..

IMHO the Vance phone are much better than the WS-5's.

After reading and watching the video's on Grey Ghost's cordless headphones I decided not to buy them.
The bad reviews that the cordless Grey Ghost's got was a shock to me because their regular corded type head phones are great !
I've been using the Grey Ghost Ultimate's on my E-Trac for 7 years and I think they are fantastic.

If Vance chimes in again it would be interesting to know what ohm rating speakers his muff are carrying. His sites says they were the best sounding out of 13 different tries. I have not used the GGs designed for the Deus but DetectorPro told me they had the same 150 ohm speakers as the GG Ultimates which I use on my FBS machines in the Winter and love the sounds. I noticed when I used the Deus adapter clip and the WS4 controller too drive the GG Ultimates that I lost sound quality. I suspect the battery in that small controller has too small a capacity to drive full size higher ohm headphones but I'm no electrical engineer.
Sound was never an issue with the vancemuffs , just comfort,,,,glad to see there's some solutions to remedy the problem

I agree I use Gary's grey ghost headphones for all my other machines but they do not sound good on the deus, the speakers are the problem.. thats why I started manufacturing the vance muffs, BECAUSE the deus has to have an awesome set of speakers to hear those iffys..

I wish I had seen that review. I bought the GG because of the name and found out I do not like the sound. It is too low in range. To me the high tones are lower than my W4s. It almost sounds like I am listening through cotton. They are comfortable but that's about it. I like the sound of my backphones but they hurt my ears form the pressure. I wear glasses so for some reason it pinches.

Hi Guys

Unfortunately I do not have a Gray Ghost for comparison purposes but I just ordered the Vance Phones from Jeremy.
I personally can't wait to have phones that will stay put over my ears. The back phones are pretty challenging in the woods.

I have elected to try the standard (original) style ear pieces first. I have a medium size head and always wear glasses.

Will keep you guys in the loop regarding my experience with the product.... regarding both comfort and audio signal recognition characteristics.
