Anyone compare the 6x10 to the 6x8 or 10x12

I have a MXT & use the 6x10 dd coil most of the time, i have been hearing alot about the butterfly coils & hope someone out there has used both types. Mainly what I am looking for is a coil that will go deeper than the 6x10 I had a 12" coil & it didn't seem to go that much deeper than the 6x10. I tried the 12" several times & never liked it because of its size.

A larger concentric coil does not always go deeper than a smaller DD style coil as you have found out Bula. DD/SEF coils excel in mineralized ground while the concentric coils excel in more neutral grounds. If your ground is very mineralized, the 5.3 concentric may very well go deeper than the 12". Bigger is not always better.

The 6X8 SEF should perform much like the 6X10 DD with less coverage but better target separation and the depth is about the same in my ground. The 10X12 SEF is my favorite general purpose hunting coil, good depth, good coverage but not ideal in heavy trash.

Like you my primary coil is the 6 X 10. A good compromise of coverage, seperation, and depth for the schools and some parks I hunt. I own the SEF 12X10
although I seldom use it, I have had good results with it. Stable response and better pinpointed than a concentric. But like Larry said, it and any larger coil gives the best results in low trash and good ground conditions.

Hi Bula,i can't give you a comparison against the 10x6 dd because i do not own one. However, i own the super 12 coil that came with my mxt pro and also the sef 8x6 coil which i purchased recently after reading many positive reports about it.I'm quite amazed at the performance of the the 8x6......it outperforms the 12" in all departments on my fields even in mild soil conditions. The only thing it lacks is ground coverage but it makes you search more thoroughly which is'nt a bad thing. It's deep, very sensitive to small objects and excellent in the trash....it will stay on my mxt permanently,i don't feel that i need another coil....it's that good.

Thanks for the info, I guess what I am looking for is a ciol that I can use in areas that I have already cleaned out with the 6x10. Larry in good ground how much deeper will the 10x12 go than the 6x10. If I could get 2-3 inches more I would be happy, If not with a coil I may have to revert to Nev. Bob's mod.

I think another 2-3 inches would be realistic.

i compared the 6x8 sef to the 6x10 whites coil on my mxt...the sef was 2-3 inches deeper and was really hot on small gold!! gold chains were killer!! great coil

Nevada Bob does a few mods, one is a tone mod adding other tones to the MD. The other is increase sensitivity or add power. He does these mainly for gold prospecting.

Hello, i had all the coils mentioned above....Get the 12x10 and the 6x8 SEF coils and you won't need anymore. The 12 x 10 has very impressive target seperation in trash for the size of it and also it is very sensitive and pretty deep. The 6x8 has even better seperation and was deeper than the 6 x 10 whites. Two cracking coils for the MXT.

Cheers,
Botto.
