Anybody want to team up and enter Ed's contest ? Bean and I already have a team but I'd like to double my chances :D

.... when I was in the Indy 500 pool at our Indiana home office ... my guy was running in 1st place after passing the leader 3 or 4 laps prior .... now it was the last lap of the race, my guy was running about 200 to 300 yards ahead of the 2nd place driver entering turn 3 of the last lap.

I was on the phone to my buddy who had the 2nd place driver (previously was the 1st place driver), yaking it up about how I was going to spend all the money I was going to win. Darned if my driver didn't run out of gas and eventually coasted across the finish line, just far enough back to be out of any money winnings for me. HA! Boy did I take a ribbing.

There was a waiting list to get into the pool at the office ... you had to wait until someone got fired, retired, or quit to be able to participate. Everyone realized you just had to win 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th place once and you had your future pools paid for for years and years. In 9 years I was in the home office pool I won 2nd place twice, 3rd once, 4th once, and one time my driver was the 1st one out of the race due to a crash. There were only four years out of the nine years I was in the pool that I didn't win any money.

One of the neat things about the Indy 500 is that any driver can win ... rookie or experienced team drivers. It is not necessary to understand Indy racing ... you have to be just interested / talented enough to have enough snacks / cool beverages on hand and turn the TV to the right channel on race day .... Sunday May 25th!

This year there will be a car sponsored by a guy here in Cape Coral, with a great looking European female driver that will be trying to qualify for the Indy 500. Hope she makes it into the race... give the guys and the lovely "Danica" a run for their money.
