Do any of you folks use "walkie talkies"? Anybody have any warnings for would-be buyers as to what brands & features to look for or avoid when purchasing?
(I've found that when hunting with buddies, we tend to wander away from each other. Using "walkie talkies" helps us enjoy more sharing during the hunt and more easily coordinate ourselves for needs such as coffee and potty breaks. We can also better harrass each other <img src="/metal/html/tongue.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":b"> . We just sync our units to the same channels and privacy codes.)
(My personal units are Motorola brand with charger and batteries, which has worked OK so far. I had heard that these radios can go through batteries fast, so I got a model with the charger. I was disappointed--but now accept--that the longer range channels are legal to use ONLY if I register with the FCC (and pay annually). I'm content to use the half-watt channels, and figure that in an emergency I would feel OK about using the one-watt, long range channels.)
