Anybody using the SunRay probe?

I have been thinking or purchasing the SunRay probe for my MXT but would like an opinion before I purchase it from those who have been using it. Are there other detector mounted brands that are effective? I have the Whites Bullseye and though its OK, I am tired of losing it when I put it down and constantly adjusting it. Thanks for your insight.

I have a DX1 mounted on my MXT and it's great. You can switch modes by pulling the trigger. It really works well!

I also have a Pocket Probe - which also a good unit, this one has the advantage of being able to go with you no matter what detector you are using.

If you use many different detectors then considers a non-mounted unit like the Sunray. If you need a probe that is standalone - then the Whites has a good bang for the buck at 99.00, or, a PI unit like the PocketProbe is very good.

Without a doubt the best accessory you can get for your MXT. Those Sun Ray probes will make your retrieving the target faster and neater holes too so you can find more targets in your time out with the MXT. I have the Sun Ray probes on my Sovereign GT, the Explorer SE and my wife's MXT and if they made it for the new Fisher F75 I have ordered i would have one for that too. Many like me are sold on the Sun Ray probes as we know what they can do.

i have not had mine a week yet but i can already tell you that i would not want to be without it.
i pinpointed a 1911 Barber dime at 6".it was weak but the signal was there and so was the dime.
the only problem is that the cord is too short on mine.
it did not come with the one on the advertisement.
mine dose not have the coiled cord, its just straight.
i have snatched on it several times already while holding my detector out of the way.
i called and was told that there had been problems with the coiled cord .
this thing is the real deal.i just wish mine had the coiled cord i thought i was buying.

Best pinpointing probe around no matter what unit you are using on..Sunray sure makes good acc. products...

Thanks for the insight. One more question, having never used a probe like this. Does it only work on the stock 950 coil or can it be used with the Hot Foot or Eliptical coils?

the unit fits in-line.the cord from your coil screws onto it and the cord from the unit screws onto the detector box. you flip a switch that changes between the coil and the probe. you use one or the other not both at one time.it should work with any coil because its really working as if it is the coil on the end of the shaft. when the switch is flipped to the probe it is your coil.
when i pinpoint a target with my coil i then get down on one knee, remove the probe with one hand and with the same hand and the probe pointed down away from the detector i flip the switch with my thumb. i then try to pinpoint with the probe.use it with your trigger just as your coil on the shaft.

Jay, this is probably a dumb question but I was of the understanding that the unit remained mounted to the detector when using the probe. So you remove the probe from the detector when you pinpoint and just flip the toggle to activate the probe? It appeared to me that the photo's I saw of the unit mounted always had the stock coils attatched so I assumed it was a line of sight pinpointer detecting through the hole in the coil. What you said makes alot more sense to me now. Thanks.

i see what you are saying, but you remove the probe from the holder and put it close to the ground but away from the target,(over signal free ground) then pull your trigger and move towards the target area, just like pinpointing with whatever coil you use.
the big advantage to me is that once you have removed your plug of ground from the hole you can then use the probe to tell if the target is in the plug or still in the whole.this saves you from getting up and down to pinpoint.
