Anybody using the Excel Concentric Coil on a Sov/GT?

I have a 5in Excel coil and it works good in trash and is the coil to use when its really bad. But I have proven to myself that it just gives up too much depth to my stock 10in DD. I'm thinking a concentric 8in would be a better trade off. What do you think? HH Don

I havent used that piticluar coil , but I will say the sunray 5 inch coil is a wonderful coil and it doesnt seem to lack any depth, the main coil and one I think every sovereign user should own is the 8 inch coinsearch coil , it offers killer target seperation and really seems to make the different tones ''explode'' into the headphones, and it offers very good depth. That is the coil that was recomended to me by a highly regarded source and I really have to say its the best one for the places I choose to hunt. They dont make them anymore so you would need to cop a used one someplace but if you do see one I recomend swooping it up ....good luck

I have heard good things about this coil for coins in a park. A silly question I do have, and it may be obvious, but is the coin-search coil a concentric coil?

thanks.

yes I was speaking about the coinsearch coil, it is a double D coil and a damn fine coil at that , I have the 8 inch and the 11 inch coinsearch coils both are really good coils, I dont think they are as sensitive as the tornado coils but they really do well in a trashy setting the target seperation is amazing the white color leaves a bit to be desired but a real solid coil none the less ........

dude you are getting funky , he asked if anyone has used an excell coil on a gt ..........your post is the only one the mentions an excal......I think them glasses are fogged up or you need a new pair .....

You are the man FOD , I have nothing but respect for you and all of your skill and knowledge .....take care and stay safe ......

I didn't know that the Coinsearch was a DD coil and I didn't know it was not waterproof. Adam is right on - good tones is the thing. I would take that, combined with good separation, over depth loss any day (well some loss). Rick(ND) has posted many times touting this coil and his advice is always good. Just one problem , them that has em keeps em. I've never seen one for sale. The EXCEL (all together now, say--- Excelerator) Concentric might be a good substitute.
How about this question: Anybody using a concentric coil on any detector? How about posting on that coil.

Do you really want to know how my QXT works with the Black Max 950??

Or just Sov/Excal with a concentric? It's very new (Excelerator concentric) and I doubt if many have tried them.

Might be interesting in trash, but certainly would not want to use one in cleaner areas........ground coverage sucks with a concentric.

You could ask the EXP guys what they think.

Of course it's going to be a little different because it's en EXP vs. a Sov coil, but there might be quite a bit in common between the two.

The general thing about Excelerators......
You either love them or hate them.....Depends on how and where you try to use them.

Don,

The 8 inch coin search is a coil I really recommend for those learning the Sovereign as the tones seem to be longer sounding thus letting a person new to the Sovereign a better chance of hearing a good tone. I also find that the 8 inch coin search would get me better depth than the 10 inch BBS coil even though it is bigger.
Now on the concentric coil I just picked up a new Excellerator for my Explorer SE and the ground was froze when I got it so I wasn't able to do a real test with it. I did take it out to a parking lot I have had some problem with and found this coil really worked good at separating and good ID. Now just to get it out in the spring and see what it can do. Indoor testing on my floor full of nails I can pick up coins and ID them better too with the concentric coil.
I feel if the Concentric was made for the Sovereign they would work good in some area with more depth, but less ground coverage so you would have to over lap more. I for one would like to get a concentric for my Sovereign GT as I know it will work if you know what I mean Don.

But after finding out the coil is not waterproof I've kind of lost interest. My hunting areas in NW Florida are mostly river crossings, back bays and wet beaches. I drag my coil thru the wet stuff all the time. I have enough trouble keeping my control box dry. But maybe somebody else on this forum who hunt in different conditions would be interested. Thanks for the offer Oldetymer.HH Don
