Anybody using 6" DD 18.75 kHz coil?

I tried a quick search, no luck.

Is anybody using the Minelab 3011-015 6" DD 18.75 kHz coil?

I am going to puchase the 6" Digger coil tomorrow, however it only seems prudent to get a specialty coil for gold as well.
I think I miss using a DD coil, although I don't really have any complaints about the stock 9.5" coil (X-Terra 505). I fiqure it's time to go to a smaller coil as my usual sites or loaded with shrapnel, I'm confident I would be able to unearth more with a smaller coil.

Here is the coil I am refering to, hopefully it's OK to post the link as I am too busy/lasy/negligent to read the TOS.
Link removed by Administrator.....and No, it is not OK to list links to dealers who do not help sponsor this forum.

They also have a nice 10x5" 18.75 kHz DD, but it is not waterproof, which would not be practical for a shoreline coil in my case.

Any info on this coil would be appreciated.

I've had one for a couple of weeks. I love it. No gold prospecting in my neck of the woods, but the old sites I went back and hit that i had covered with the concentric coil, gave up some old coins. It discriminates in junk well, just have to go slow.I love the unmistakable ring of quarters this coil makes. Don't know if this helps.

Before the "Digger" coil was released, my favorite coil for hunting in trashy areas was the 6-inch DD at 18.75 kHz, from Minelab. As you said, there is nothing better than a small DD coil in trash infested areas. I believe the 6-inch Minelab DD at 18.75 kHz will detect everything that the Digger coil will detect. But being HF, it falls short in identifying deeply buried iron. And that is where the "Digger" coil shines. If you are wanting a coil that is waterproof, separates well and is sensitive to gold, the 6-inch HF is a good one. There are hundreds of posts on this forum, regarding the 6-inch HF coil. If you go to the Search function and type in 6 HF coil, you will pull up page after page. HH Randy

It is a "must have" as far as I'm concerned. I have all (3) 6" coils and before buying the Digger coil I felt that the 6" HF coil was the better of the two Minelab coils for the soil in my area. The jury is still out on if the Digger coil will be my new favorite 6" coil being that I've only had it out about 3 times but with very good success. I'm about ready to sell my 6" concentric coil. In my area I don't see an advantage to keeping it with having the 6" HF coil and the 6" Digger coil.

Thanks guys, this is helpfull.

Hopefully they have both coils in stock. I suppose the 18.75 not being good at IDing iron is of little consequence, as I would be primarily using the HF coil on the beach, while trashy does not have the big iron like my inland sites, which is where I will be using the Digger coil.

Thanks again mapper, I'm sold.

All of my soil conditions GB at around 7-10 on my 505, which according to diggers article means I should be using a DD coil anyways. (Under 30% of my GB scale.)
Perhaps that is why I liked my 10x5" DD so much on my other detector.

OK I went and bought this coil this morning. Actually I went with the purpose of buying the 3kHz Digger coil also, but they were out of stock.
A guy who worked at the store decidied he was going to wave his digger coil in front of me, but refused to sell it to me, even at retail. Annoying, only hour and half drive one way.

I did buy both coils, they will mail the 6" Digger to me with free shipping when they arrive. They also had a sale on today that was tax-free on all Minelab purchases, so I picked up an enviro cover as well.

So I am going to head out today with a buddy, I guess I'm going to the beaches with the 18.75 kHz 6" DD coil.

Today was a success. I detected two sites, for a total of about 3 -3 1/2 hours.

The first site was parkland, I site I go to regularly, but it was a new to me area of the park. It did not take long to get used to the new coil, TID was pretty much the same on pennies.
I picked up 6 pennies there, one of which was a 1946 Wheat Cent which is a different, kinda neat find for Canada. The coin was only 10' off of a path, a spot you would assume has been hit before, but I just chalked it up to coincidence.

The second site was a public swimming area, a little beach about 30' wide. I picked up 10 coins here, mostly pennies, one Loonie and most notably a 1949 Georgian silver dime. This was really nice to find because it eased concerns about missing silver and copper with this HF coil. I found all the coins along the waters edge, I was wearing shoes, so I only got in the water a foot or two.

After this experience, I can't wait for my Digger coil to arrive, as it should go deeper and hit harder on coinage.
Heck tomorrow I am going to detect my parents homestead, which to date had only given me a single 1985 Cent. At least it was copper lol.
This site is beer cap central, with the usual amount of iron. Old enough that there has got to be a little silver laying around somewheres.

Coming from analog machines, I am really digging the X-terra now, especially with the little DD. Less walking, more finding. I also like TID numbers, that along with solid tones adds a lot of confidence. It's great to be able to discriminate, without actually having to use discrimination. I run in AM mode with 99 tones.

 Glad to hear that it's comming together for you! It only gets better from here.
