just surprised i haven't seen any posts on nugget hunting yet, been reading since this forum started. i hunt mostly relics but gold a possibility. will have my T2 by spring though. i want to thank everyone for the informative post. HH Thompy

I've used the T-2 up in the California gold country for relic hunting and it operated extremely well with very good stability, The area I was searching is the same ground gold nuggets are found and most VLF detectors go crazy from the mineralized soil.

The T-2 does get the tiny conductors so it's going to be a matter of time someone out there will be getting gold nuggets, Gold nugget hunting is tough work so I'll stick to relic searching instead.

See if you can hunt down the El Paso Texas GPAA chapter and ask them about it. Dave told me he gave a lenthy presentation and a T2 to their club for them to use. I myself never got to do any nugget hunting with it. Gas prices shot through the roof and I never went.

Hi, Was interested in your question as I have the same question. I'm fixing to order a T2 for the same purpose. I've read quite a bit on what detector is "best" for that sort of thing and there seems to be a few of them out there that are specifically designed for gold. I've decided to go with the T2 as the specs and info I've read indicate it will do well nugget hunting but, as my interests don't stop there, (and without getting into brand loyalty) it seems to be one of the most versatile on the market. I have a Tech Mark III and was very happy with it right up to the point a possum chewed the coil wire in half. (The possum was summarily executed without trial or appeal.) (I don't know if splicing the wire will diminish the III's performance - very little room to work with as it was very near the coil head.) I plan on using the T2 in eastern Washington. Drop me a line with your experiences nugget hunting and we'll compare notes. PS: While (deer) hunting in E.WA 30 years ago I stumbled across a (seemingly) old structure (cabin?) the top of a Mt. All that was left was the dirt floor and the remnants of the old stone walls. (Why stone instead of logs in a forest I can only guess.) I'll be shooting the (dry water) draws up the mountain for nuggets and will have a set of fresh batteries with me when I get to the cabin. Been dreaming of going there since I got my first detector 20 years ago.
