Anybody use the Classic 5 ID?

It's simply a classic id running at 8.3 kHz built exclusively for K company. They can be modified just like the 6.59 kHz older units. The problem with them is coil choices. They use Prizm coils and there isn't many to choose from. If you get an Classic ID, IDX or IDX pro running at 6.59 kHz there are way more coils to choose from.

Thanks so much for the info. Since I posted this I went back through the post's and read the comments on it. This forum has been very helpful.

felt they were under-rated by dealers, ignored by dealers, and thus not promoted by dealers ... which told me there were a lot of dealers out there who just were not seriously into metal detecting, knowing their product line, and promoting low-to-mid priced model that had the potential to provide exceptional performance. Not just within the White's line-up, but against much of the competition they have.

Now, having vented over my frustration that the Classic were not promoted and therefore didn't get the attention they could have/should have from White's engineering crew, let me assure you that anyone armed with a decent-performing Classic III SL, Classic ID, IDX or IDX Pro and at least one good accessory coil for it can take most other hobbyists with whatever they are using to task in some of the most challenging of sites.

I hope my bias toward the Classic's isn't showing. :inlove:

The primary Classic SL series from White's all operate at 6.59 kHz, and only the Classic II and hard-wired Classic I can't share search coils with the Classic III Plus and the 'SL' series III, ID, IDX and IDX Pro. The Classic 4 and Classic 5-ID are models White's produces expressly for Kellyco (a dealer who DOES promote them) but have a little electronic 'front end' revision to use a different coil set and they operate at about 8.1 kHz. They use the Prizm-based search coils.

The BAD points of the Classic 5-ID:
