Anybody use a GTI 2000, thinking about buying one!

Just looking for some input on this machine, I like to coin hunt.

Heck the 2000 was the first of the imaging units and you will have to buy used with mileage on it...I understand this unit had problems with the new imaging coil as it was the new kid on the block...Just might look into the 2500 or the smaller lighter 1500 as haven't heard of any problems with these newer imaging units. Yep they make a fine coin unit and do love gold rings..In other words buy a new model car and it may have bugs in a new design and the second year they are all ironed out...My advice go for the 2500 or 1500 and never look back as they will produce...

I picked up a GTI 2000 and, having had 2 GTI 1500's, find that it's no different in disc. mode (which is as it should be) and has an awesome AM mode. I'm not too sure if the 2500 is all that much better, save that it has a backlight. The coil problem is not present on mine since the previous owner returned it to the factory for a "tuneup" and they replaced the coil gratis. If you read through the manual for the GTI 2000 & then compare it to the 2500, you'll notice that a number of "features" that were ballyhooed on the 2500 (with the requisite stickers eg. scantrack) were present on the 2000 but only got a quick mention in the manual. Detector manufacturors are no different than any other business and often reinvent preexisting functions as something "new & improved".. ever hear of "antibacterial" soap; kinda like saying "wet" water. One thing to find is related to the ground tracking. The 2000 has 3 ground tracking speeds (and off) and, reading through the 2500 manual, it doesn't mention any choice of speed.. only on/off. I'd say that, if you can get the 2000 for a decent price, go for it. The possible improvement that the 2500 offers probably isn't all that great. ...Willy. BTW. You might notice that, despite the bad press that Garrett detectors get , there are relatively few used ones for sale as compared to Minelab, Tesoro, Whites... Hmmm, wonder why?

Garrett Detectors can add the chip to bring it up to the 2500 standard. I think the only difference was that they introduced the DSP chip into the 2500. However, the 2000 as it is gets the same depth as the 2500. Just another option for you to consider.

I had wanted to try one years back when they first came out but didn`t want to spend the money. I found a used one alot cheaper than a new 2500, this will be my first Garrett. I swing 2 Minelabs now so we will see. Thanks again for the input.

YEah they had coil problems with the first production runs but the problem was all cleared up. Even if you get one with a bad coil I'm sure Garrett will correct it free of charge.

Yeah as I stated the 2000 is the 2500 minus a couple of cosmetic features. If one can find one at a good price jump on it.

I think you will like the Garrett. It does have a slight learning curve but you'll master it. It has an awesome all metal mode. Just pop in here if you have any problems.

I`ve noticed looking at accessories for GTI most places don`t list the 2000, Does coils, probes, and such from the 2500 work with the 2000?
