Anybody Thought About This?

The new one-dollar US coins featuring presidents are going to start shipping soon. I doubt we will see widespread acceptance of them, much like the other attempts. I'm sure there will be lots of HOARDING going on, but wouldn't it be nice if they DID catch on??? For SPENDING???

Because I have come home from many a summer's eve hunt with a pocket litterally BULGING with quarters. Sure would be nice if they were DOLLARS! It would at least make getting "skunked" on the gold a little more bearable.

if they made the coins dsigusting - say of just presidents no one liked...seems even if it was say Bush or Clinton about half like him and half don't so can't picture 100% hoarding as the half that hate him might circulate them. Or they might make them out of aluminum pull tabs and no body would want them even us

Maybe they should put sports people on them - I hate sports and I'd circulate mine. Maybe infomercial coins - ones with the stepmaster on the back and whatshername on the front, or the bowflex with whatever his name is on the front, etc.

Really confuse em put Democrate on the one side and Republican on the other - then no one would want to keep the stupid things.

Just a thought. Maybe Pee Wee Herman - like him or not.

in the earlyer 1900's people used 1/2 dollars much more..I wonder why that stopped??? we get lots of walking and barber 1/2's from the beach after storms.

In the past they have been about almost the same size as a quarter and no one wanted them because they we to easily mistaken for a quarter. If they make them bigger like the old silver dollars then they stand a chance, but they would have to be light.

since they are making them the same size and configuration as the Sagajewaya(probably wrong spelling). I think none of the 1 or 2 dollar coins ever caught on is because they are so close to the size of the Quarter. They really need to be larger than a Quarter or have something really unique about them to make them seem like they are actually worth a dollar. Similar to the higher denomination Canadian Coins would probably help them catch on. Also I personally would like to see pennies retired permanently. That has been talk about it over the years. Some stores that I go to are already rounding prices off so that you don't need pennies and some even are giving back a few cents by rounding off the Cash Register amounts. Hopefully it's only a matter of time before pennies are gone!!!! I also hope that I am wrong about the new $1 dollar coins as I to would like to find more dollars on the beach :) JMHO

Here's a typical night for me, in the height of the summer tourist season...specifically, July 23rd 2006, which was a Saturday night rolling into a Sunday morning. I think you'll remember the post. :)

Here we have TWENTY quarters, $5000 worth a diamond rings, and a 29" silver chain. As for PENNIES, there MIGHT be twenty of them...which is fine with me...I collect those as a public service to my fellow detectorists. :)

This is a lot of pennies right here!

Me too...if next summer is half as good as last summer, I'll be very happy.

As for the dollar coins, I see these Aussies and Canucks talking about "Yeah, got me $73 in clad..." etc. and I think "MAN, I wish we had something bigger than 25 cent coins!"

So when is the next Excal outing?

the $1.00 & $2.00 coins replaced the bills & now there's talk of a $5.00 coin being contemplated:hot: The loonies & toonies sure add to the totals at the end of a hunt. We :canadaflag:never thought the coins would catch on, but boy did they ever...H.H.:)

Response: AFTER I finish my work. :throw: :rage: It's not looking good at all for this weekend, but if I do get out, it might be on Sunday afternoon. I'll let you know. If not this weekend, then after Tuesday the 13th.

It's killing me! Especially when I check in here to see what's happening on the beaches!

HH to all,
Stacey

They would come out with maybe a silver $2 the size of a dime, a $5 about the size of a nickel & maybe $10 the size of a quarter & if not silver, maybe an alloy of some type that would have distinct color??? Oh yeah, it would really be nice if it didn't corrode or discolor easily...
